More than a payroll processor, this individual serves as a trusted partner to employees, managers, Human Resources, and Finance, balancing operational excellence with outstanding customer service. We are seeking a collaborative and solutions-oriented professional who thrives in a supportive team environment. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical and analytical skills, excels at building positive working relationships, and demonstrates sound judgment when navigating payroll-related challenges. This role requires someone who can think critically, identify process improvements, and effectively balance business requirements, compliance standards, and employee needs while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and accuracy. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Process payroll-related transactions accurately and timely, including wage assignments, retroactive pay, severance payments, supplemental earnings, and other payroll adjustments. Partner closely with managers, supervisors, Human Resources, and employees to ensure the accuracy of employee time and attendance data. Calculate, prepare, and process manual checks while updating payroll and banking systems as required. Process miscellaneous payroll transactions including prior-period timecard adjustments, new hires, terminations, garnishments, education reimbursements, reversals, cross-charges, and other payroll-related activities. Upload and validate payroll data files as needed. Serve as a payroll subject matter resource by explaining payroll and timekeeping policies, researching issues, and responding to employee and management inquiries. Review payroll validation reports, time-entry audits, and exception reports to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance. Process direct deposit reversals, stop payments, W-2 requests, and returned checks. Maintain accurate payroll records, employee earnings and deductions, tax withholding information, and payroll-related documentation. Assist with payroll projects, process improvement initiatives, and system enhancements. Document and maintain payroll procedures while assisting with the training of payroll and related staff. Support employees with questions related to payroll, PTO accruals, wage deductions, benefits deductions, tax withholding, and other pay-related matters. Demonstrate strong employee relations skills by providing responsive, professional, and solution-focused support. Run payroll and timekeeping reports as requested and analyze data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement. Participate in continuous improvement efforts that enhance payroll processes, compliance, and the employee experience. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong payroll processing knowledge with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to build positive relationships and collaborate effectively with employees, managers, Human Resources, and cross-functional teams. Excellent customer service and employee relations skills. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities. Ability to balance payroll compliance requirements with employee needs and business objectives. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet bi-weekly payroll deadlines. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated initiative in identifying payroll issues, researching root causes, and implementing solutions. FPC (Fundamental Payroll Certification) or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience, including at least 1 year of multi-state payroll experience. Working knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures and basic accounting principles. Strong understanding of payroll confidentiality requirements and data privacy standards. Experience working with payroll systems, timekeeping systems, and payroll-related reporting. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field. Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local payroll regulations. Experience with ADP Workforce Management (WFM) or similar time and attendance systems. Experience processing California state payroll, including knowledge of California wage and hour requirements. Payroll certification (FPC or CPP). Knowledge of Human Resources policies, procedures, and basic accounting principles.
Salary Range:
$30 - $34

Hybrid schedule working Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office The targeted range for this role takes into account a range of factors that are considered when making compensation and hiring decisions; included but not limited to: skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
