ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Payroll Clerk position accurately issues pay to employees by calculating earnings and deductions in accordance with established practices and guidelines. Maintains employee database and files, maintains employee time records.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Compiles payroll data, enters data, reconciles errors, maintains accurate payroll records, using payroll software and spreadsheets. Ensure proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits and other deductions. Issue or reissue physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge. Calculates payroll data, such as hours worked, per diem, federal, state and local taxes, union dues, fringes, as well as Certified Payroll, Davis Bacon Wages. Processes garnishments and/or wage withholding orders. Enter, maintain, and/or process information in the payroll system; information may include employees' hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave, holidays, deductions, withholding, address changes, and other information. Reviews calculated wages and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll; investigates and corrects payroll discrepancies and errors. Records changes affecting net wages, such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records. Processes new employees, terminations, transfers and promotions. Completes requests for pay-related documents including statements and verifications. Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and guidelines Will assist with Onboarding task for New/Rehired Employees as needed Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
High School Diploma or equivalent 2+ years' previous experience, preferred Experience of payroll processing; using Paylocity preferred Previous experience working with Unions preferred Understanding of basic accounting principles Knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations and requirements Strong numerical skills, pays attention to details, good at planning, organizing and prioritizing. Knowledge of employee benefits and applicable laws preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Proficient with, or the ability to quickly learn, payroll software. Strong interpersonal, decision-making and analytical abilities Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor Ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures Ability to function in a team environment Ability to work established schedule and other hours as needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary; Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise more objects, including the human body.
