Job Description
Position Overview The Emergency Department Access Care Representative (ACR) at United Health Services (UHS) is often the first person patients and families meet during an emergency visit. This role helps patients access care by completing registration, verifying insurance, collecting key information, and supporting smooth patient flow. The ACR works closely with clinical teams in a fast-paced environment while providing respectful, compassionate service. $17.98- $25.17 per hour, depending on experience
Job Responsibilities Essential Functions:
Perform patient registration for emergency, inpatient, observation, and outpatient patients by accurately completing required demographic, insurance, and consent information in designated systems Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and prior authorization requirements to support timely access to care and accurate billing Maintain hospital census and bed board information to support clinical workflow and patient placement Calculate patient financial responsibility and collects or arranges payment through phone or face-to-face interactions Prepare and update patient records for emergency, ambulatory, and inpatient services to ensure documentation completenessScope and Impact:
Contribute directly to patient access, financial accuracy, and patient experience within a high-volume emergency department environment Exercise judgment within established procedures to resolve registration, insurance, and authorization issues Coordinate with clinical staff, physician offices, insurance carriers, and financial advocacy teams to support care delivery Work under general supervision with accountability for assigned registrations, documentation accuracy, and timely follow-upCompliance and Professional:
Maintain accurate documentation in registration and financial systems in accordance with state, federal, and organizational requirements Complete required training and competency validations within established timeframes Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality standards when accessing and handling patient information Safeguard sensitive data by following established security policies and procedures, using systems responsibly, and promptly reporting potential security incidents, risks, or policy violations As applicable to your role, support cybersecurity and data protection requirements throughout the supplier lifecycle by coordinating vendor risk assessments, monitoring third-party compliance, and promptly reporting identified supply chain or cybersecurity risksAdditional Expectations:
Maintain professionalism and composure when interacting with patients and visitors in high-stress or emotionally charged situations Remain flexible to support alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency staffing needs in a 24/7 environment Demonstrate UHS Values of Compassion, Trust, Respect, Teamwork, and Innovation in all daily work and interactions Execute responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations Perform additional responsibilities as required to meet department and organizational needsPosition Qualifications Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent At least 1 year of related experience in a role or field that provides transferable skills or knowledge relevant to the positionPreferred:
