Part-Time Contract Accountant & Financial Consultant North Oakland Transportation Authority (NOTA) -
Oxford, Michigan Pay:
$60-$125 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience
Position Type:
Part-time, long-term independent contractor
Schedule:
Flexible, averaging approximately 10-40 hours per month; primarily remote with occasional on-site work Position Summary NOTA is seeking an experienced accountant and financial professional to manage monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting responsibilities and assist with financial analysis and special projects. This position is ideal for an independent CPA, experienced governmental or nonprofit accountant, or fractional controller who can work independently and meet recurring financial, grant-reporting, budget, and audit deadlines. Responsibilities
  • Reconcile bank accounts and review general ledger activity in QuickBooks Online.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual reports for the Board.
  • Review payroll entries, account classifications, receivables, payables, liabilities, and capital assets.
  • Prepare quarterly SMART, MDOT, Oakland County, and other grant reports and reimbursement requests.
  • Maintain grant allocation schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare adjusting entries, year-end accruals, audit schedules, and workpapers.
  • Coordinate annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests.
  • Assist with annual operating and capital budget preparation, projections, and budget amendments.
  • Perform financial analysis, forecasting, internal-control reviews, and other finance-related special projects as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Recommend improvements to financial procedures, reporting, documentation, and internal controls.
  • Occasionally assist with grant applications, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation. Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • At least five years of relevant accounting experience preferred.
  • Governmental, nonprofit, transportation, grant-accounting, or public-sector experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, audit preparation, adjusting entries, and grant reimbursement reporting.
  • Grant-writing experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, writing, and deadline-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
Hours and Work Arrangement The position is expected to average approximately 10-40 hours per month . Hours may vary, with additional time required during quarterly grant reporting, annual budget preparation, year-end closing, and audit preparation. Compensation $60-$125 per hour , depending on credentials and relevant accounting, governmental, grant-reporting, budgeting, audit, and financial consulting experience.
