Job Description
Discover a more connected career Dycom is seeking a technical, innovative and analytical Senior Sales Tax Analyst - Indirect Tax to be a valuable member of our Tax team. A career with our Indirect Tax team will provide you with the opportunity to manage large corporate sales and use tax obligations, continue to gain technical knowledge, and assist with managing tax impacts to the company. You will contribute to designing fit for the future tax processes, be a change agent in our finance transformation, help solve business challenges related to business structuring, implement adoption of new tax laws, and communicate tax developments. You will determine our tax effects and recommend solutions that support our overall business objectives to ensure that our filing positions are consistent with "best practices" and with the applicable tax laws and rules. Our goal is to transform risk and compliance related to taxes into a business advantage by aligning our tax plan with the business strategy; and to properly estimate, calculate, and pay sales and use tax. The Tax Department supports Dycom and our 40+ Operating Companies with sales and use tax compliance, accounting, planning, and audit assistance. As a Senior Sales Tax Analyst - Indirect Tax, you will work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. What you'll do Assist with the indirect tax process to ensure technical accuracy and external monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deadlines are met Ensure all filings are timely and accurate, coordinating closely with internal operating entities and external outsourcing partners Maintain rigorous Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls and documentation for all indirect tax processes Assist with managing audits, notices, and inquiries; working toward a beneficial conclusion for the Company Assist with developing analytics for presentation of results to C-Suite Manage and ensure the technical accuracy of sales and use tax returns, as well as taxes on construction labor Keep abreast of accounting and tax law changes and determine financial statements and returns impacts, including process changes needed Liaise with other corporate departments and with operating companies to ensure the tax effects of transactions and developments are appropriately captured in the sales and use tax returns Act to resolve issues which prevent the team from working effectively and efficiently Contribute to and help implement tax strategies that best position the company to limit risk and overpayments of tax Assist with determining the tax implications of planning strategies and transactions Effectively and efficiently research tax issues and document findings, form an opinion/conclusion, and provide meaningful recommendations Act as a subject matter expert, providing guidance to internal teams on tax impacts, SAP system configuration, and vendor/customer exemption requirements Assist with explaining and presenting technical tax issues to senior management within the department Anticipate Management's needs and develop and discuss potential solutions, before the needs are raised Utilize software such as SAP and Vertex to achieve best corporate tax practices Assist with accounts payable and billing tracking related to tax consultants Manage outside service providers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness with meeting the tax compliance requirements and deadlines What you'll need To be 18 years of age or older Authorization to work in the United States for this company Bachelor's degree with accounting major; Masters in Tax is a plus 5+ years of experience in multi-state sales tax compliance Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) Proficiency in Word and PowerPoint Working knowledge of tax research platforms like CCH, BNA, or related Experience assisting with appeals and audits is a plus CPA license is a plus Additional Qualifications Considerable knowledge of the sales and use tax issues facing publicly traded US companies, especially in the areas of tax accounting, tax compliance, tax planning, and audit defense Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear business correspondence and procedural manuals and ability to lead discussions with senior management in a clear and concise manner Strong technical skills in multi-state tax compliance, reconciling sales and use tax accounts, assisting with audits, and reviewing accruals of use tax on purchases Experience identifying and addressing indirect tax needs Position requires strong critical thinking, excellent analytical skills, interpersonal and project management skills, and acute attention to detail Ability to move between big picture thinking and managing relevant detail Work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced and changing environment. Adapt and redirect, as necessary Must be comfortable working cross functionally and making business connections with multiple stakeholders and information suppliers Self-motivated with the ability to take ownership of projects, processes, and job responsibilities Team player that demonstrates professionalism through a positive and cooperative attitude Ability to read situations and modify behavior to build quality relationships Ability to develop new skills outside of comfort zone Experience working with SAP, Vertex, and/or Alteryx or other similar platforms is a plus Physical abilities & exposures
