Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sales & Use Tax Analyst to support a long-term contract engagement in Mooresville, North Carolina. This position will focus on resolving a backlog of multi-state sales and use tax matters by identifying exposure, researching historical issues, and guiding remediation efforts through completion. The ideal candidate brings direct experience leading tax cleanup initiatives and can work independently to deliver clear, practical solutions in a complex environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Investigate outstanding multi-state sales and use tax issues to identify root causes, quantify exposure, and prioritize remediation efforts.
  • Review historical transactions, tax records, and supporting documentation to reconcile unresolved items and confirm accurate tax treatment.
  • Develop and execute action plans to address open tax matters, including corrections, filings, payments, and other remedial steps as needed.
  • Lead end-to-end cleanup activities for sales and use tax backlog items, ensuring issues are tracked, resolved, and documented thoroughly.
  • Perform detailed account and ledger reconciliations to validate balances, resolve discrepancies, and improve reporting accuracy.
  • Conduct technical tax research across multiple jurisdictions to interpret requirements and support sound remediation decisions.
  • Utilize tools such as Excel and tax platforms like Vertex or Avalara to analyze data, manage calculations, and support issue resolution.
  • Document findings, methodologies, and process recommendations to create a clear audit trail and strengthen ongoing tax processes.
