Sales Tax Analyst
Job Description
A great UHY client is seeking a Sales Tax Analyst . The ideal candidate will have sales and use tax experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage multi-state tax compliance in a manufacturing environment. The Sales Tax Analyst role is a hybrid position with 2-3 days in office. This is a client direct hire position. Sales Tax Analyst Responsibilities Prepare monthly and quarterly sales and use tax returns across multiple states. Support sales and use tax audits by responding to notices, researching tax positions, gathering documentation, and communicating with government auditors. Coordinate with external consultants on property tax compliance, including gathering information, preparing returns, paying tax bills, and supporting audits. Partner with plant personnel and Corporate Finance to obtain fixed asset, invoice, and general ledger information needed for tax filings. Respond to plant inquiries regarding sales tax, property tax, depreciation, and related tax matters. Reconcile tax data to financial records and investigate discrepancies. Manage the fixed asset tax depreciation process, including maintaining tax basis and book-to-tax differences. Support the Sage depreciation system and assist with plant questions related to fixed assets and depreciation. Complete compliance requirements for U.S. domestic tax incentives, including tracking obligations and reporting deadlines. Assist with negotiating and administering state and local tax incentives. Identify sales/use tax and property tax savings opportunities and implement related process improvements. Monitor changes in tax laws and regulatory guidance and assess their impact on the Company. Identify opportunities to improve technology, automation, and efficiency within tax processes. Develop broader tax expertise by assisting with federal, state, and local income tax returns, R&D tax credit studies, and international tax filings. Assist with additional tax projects and initiatives as needed. Sales Tax Analyst Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent experience is a plus. 2+ years of tax experience. Sales and use tax experience required, preferably within a manufacturing environment. Property tax experience preferred. Strong understanding of multi-state sales and use tax compliance. Experience with fixed asset tax depreciation and book-to-tax differences preferred. Hyperion financial systems experience is a plus. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently research and resolve tax issues. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with plant personnel, Finance, external consultants, and government agencies. Proactive, curious, and willing to learn new areas of tax. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities while maintaining accuracy. Comfortable identifying process improvement and automation opportunities. Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
