Full Job Description Position Purpose:
The Vice President of Commercial Lending provides strategic leadership to the Business Services Department, and is accountable for originating, managing, and administering the credit union's commercial loan portfolio. With a focus on maintaining and enhancing asset quality, this role actively drives growth by fostering new and existing business relationships, expanding core deposits, and increasing non-interest income. Additionally, this position supports the ongoing development of commercial credit policy and ensures full compliance with all applicable federal regulations.
Essential Responsibilities:
Directly supervises Director of Commercial Lending, Director of Commercial Portfolio, and Director of Business Development. Takes applications for commercial loan business, reviews member financial condition and assesses the member's ability to re-pay the loan. Communicates and negotiates with members on product structure and pricing. Completes or directs completion of all loan documents and closes loans. Provides support to subordinates and completes evaluations in a timely manner. Participates in developing credit and deposit business for the credit union. Calls on members to expand existing business; calls on prospects seeking opportunities to expand the Credit Union's member base. Leads the business services team to increase commercial and relationships. Assists members with any loan-related questions and concerns. Services members by answering questions in a timely and complete manner. Conducts regular visits to members' places of business to ensure member satisfaction. Monitors existing loan portfolio to maintain a high-quality asset base. Maintains up to date client files including current balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow projections, tax returns, and all loan documentation. Ensures that the commercial department meets established goals and objectives. Examines, evaluates, authorizes or recommends approval of member applications for commercial loans and lines of credit. Reviews periodically for required updated financial information and field visits. Participates in establishment of annual department budgets and monitors performance to budget throughout the year; establishes annual loan goals (in conjunction with management) and initiates action to achieve established goals. Assists in collecting past due commercial loans.
Minimum Education, Experience, & Skills Required:
Experience :
Eight years to ten years of similar or related experience.
Education :
Bachelor's Degree. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education, including completion of higher education, specialized certifications or licensure, or relevant training programs.
Skills :
Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others are key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others. Must be proficient with Core Banking Software, Loan Origination Systems, Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe.
