Controller Sea View Builders, a high-end residential builder based in Osterville, Massachusetts, is seeking an experienced Controller to join our team. The Controller will oversee the company's financial and accounting functions, along with oversight of human resources and coordination of key administrative functions. This is a hands-on leadership role combining strategic financial management with day-to-day execution. The Controller will partner closely with ownership and the management team to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong cash flow, effective job costing and disciplined financial management across the company. The role will also assess current accounting operations, recommend improvements to systems and workflows, and implement new processes as needed. Responsibilities Financial Management and Reporting Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and bank reconciliations Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements Maintain internal controls and ensure financial records are complete and accurate Manage month-end and year-end close processes Construction Accounting and Job Costing Oversee job costing, WIP schedules, revenue recognition and margin analysis Review project financial performance, budgets and forecasts Partner with Project Managers to track committed costs, profitability and variances Monitor cash-flow needs by project and company-wide Maintain accurate project-level financial reporting for ownership and management Budgeting, Forecasting and Cash Flow Lead annual budgeting and ongoing forecasting processes Manage cash-flow forecasting and working capital Support planning for new projects, growth initiatives and capital needs Banking, Risk and Compliance Serve as the primary contact for banks, outside accountants and insurance providers Ensure compliance with lending agreements and financial covenants Coordinate tax filings, audits and reporting with external providers Oversee insurance programs, including general liability, workers' compensation and builder's risk Assist with contract administration and financial risk management Human Resources Oversee payroll administration, benefits enrollment and employee records Ensure compliance with employment laws, labor regulations and wage requirements Support hiring, onboarding and employee-separation processes in coordination with ownership Maintain HR policies, the employee handbook and workplace-compliance documentation Advise leadership on compensation, performance management and employee relations Leadership and Collaboration Manage and mentor accounting staff or outside bookkeeping resources Improve accounting processes, systems and reporting efficiency Work closely with ownership, operations and project teams to support company goals Help establish scalable financial systems and processes as the company grows Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field CPA preferred but not required 5+ years of progressive accounting or financial-leadership experience Construction-industry accounting experience required Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, cost-to-complete forecasting and construction cash flow Strong hands-on accounting skills and willingness to work directly in the company's systems Experience overseeing payroll, benefits and HR compliance Proficiency with QuickBooks and construction-management software; Buildertrend experience strongly preferred Strong organizational, analytical, leadership and communication skills Comfortable working in a close-knit, fast-paced, owner-led environment Compensation and Benefits Salary range of $150,000 to $185,000, based on experience, plus performance bonus and benefits.
