Job Description

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to head up and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of a growing organization. This position will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong accounting controls, improving processes, and supporting leadership with timely financial information. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in general accounting, enjoys taking ownership of the accounting function, and is comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and account reconciliations. Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes. Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reports. Review balance sheet accounts and investigate and resolve discrepancies. Monitor cash flow and assist with short- and long-term cash planning. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure accuracy and timely processing. Assist leadership with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Prepare budget-to-actual reporting and analyze significant variances. Develop and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting accuracy and efficiency. Maintain accurate fixed asset schedules and related depreciation. Coordinate with external CPA firms for tax preparation, year-end reporting, and audits or reviews. Assist with payroll accounting and related reconciliations as needed. Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting regulations. Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff as applicable. Partner with operations and other departments to improve financial processes and provide accounting support. Assist senior leadership with special projects, financial analysis, and business initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience , preferably within a small to mid-sized organization. Previous experience as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, or similar hands-on accounting role. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting. Demonstrated experience managing month-end close and preparing financial statements. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, AP, AR, and cash management. Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis. Prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred. Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting/ERP systems. Ability to identify problems, improve processes, and take ownership through resolution. Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees and leadership at all levels.
