Job Title:
General Laborer Job Description This role involves working in a lumber production environment, using equipment and power tools to cut and assemble lumber components to precise measurements. The parts you produce will be used by builders to construct wall and roof trusses. The position is physically demanding and requires frequent standing on a platform, bending, and nailing trusses during a full shift. Responsibilities Use equipment, hand tools, and power tools to cut lumber to precise measurements according to specifications. Assemble wall and roof truss components by positioning, aligning, and securing lumber pieces. Stand on a platform for extended periods and bend to nail trusses safely and accurately. Read and interpret blueprints and measurement markings to ensure accurate cuts and assemblies. Operate saws and other cutting equipment to prepare lumber for framing, trim work, and cabinetry-related tasks. Assist with framing, trim work, and installation tasks as needed in the lumber yard or production area. Measure materials accurately using tape measures and other measuring tools to maintain quality standards. Handle, move, and organize lumber and finished components throughout the yard and work area. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all safety guidelines and procedures. Inspect materials and finished components for quality, reporting any defects or issues to the appropriate personnel. Essential Skills At least 6+ months of carpentry experience in a hands-on role. At least 6+ months of construction experience in a field or shop environment. Experience with framing tasks, including working with wall and roof structures. Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and measurement markings. Experience working with lumber, wood working, or in a lumber yard environment. Ability to operate saws and other cutting equipment for lumber preparation. Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motions throughout the shift. Strong tape measure skills and ability to take accurate measurements. Additional Skills & Qualifications Framing experience preferred for wall and roof truss assembly. Experience in finish carpentry, trim work, or cabinetry is an asset. Experience with cabinet building or cabinetry-related tasks. Comfort working with general labor tasks in a construction or lumber yard setting. Ability to follow detailed instructions and production plans. Attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a lumber yard that is non-climate controlled. It is an open environment where large doors remain open, so temperatures inside closely match the conditions outside—hot in warm weather and cold in cooler seasons. You will work Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., standing for long periods on platforms and working around lumber, saws, and other power tools. The setting is industrial and production-focused, with active material handling and equipment use throughout the day. Appropriate work attire should be durable and suitable for a physically demanding, outdoor-like environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Spring Hill, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
