Health and Safety Specialist- Job Description
- The Health and Safety Specialist develops, implements, and maintains site-specific health and safety programs to ensure a safe working environment and regulatory compliance.
This role leads safety initiatives, conducts audits and investigations, delivers training, and serves as the primary safety contact for the Memphis site, working closely with leadership and HR to foster a proactive safety culture.
- Responsibilities
- + Develop and maintain site-specific health and safety policies, procedures, and training programs tailored to the facility's operations.
+ Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement effective mitigation measures. + Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and ensure timely reporting, documentation, and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. + Facilitate safety training sessions, toolbox talks, and safety-related onboarding for new employees to promote awareness and best practices. + Ensure the plant remains compliant with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulatory requirements and is always prepared for internal and external audits. + Maintain, track, and analyze safety performance metrics and trends, and prepare clear reports and presentations for site leadership. + Collaborate with site leadership and HR to promote and reinforce a proactive, engaged safety culture across all levels of the organization. + Support the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of emergency preparedness and response plans. + Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters at the Memphis site, providing guidance and support to employees and supervisors.
- Essential Skills
- + At least 3 years of experience in a health and safety role, ideally within a manufacturing or chemical production environment.
+ Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements. + Demonstrated experience developing and implementing health and safety policies, procedures, and training programs. + Proven ability to conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments and to recommend effective corrective actions. + Experience leading incident investigations and managing safety documentation and reporting. + Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for reporting, analysis, and presentations. + Experience using safety management systems to track incidents, actions, and performance metrics.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
+ Professional safety certifications such as OSHA 30, CSP, CHST, or similar are a strong plus. + Experience supporting emergency preparedness and response planning. + Ability to collaborate effectively with leadership, HR, and cross-functional teams to drive safety initiatives. + Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret safety data and identify trends and opportunities for improvement. + Ability to facilitate engaging training sessions and toolbox talks for diverse audiences.

- Work Environment
- The role is based in an indoor and outdoor manufacturing environment, requiring regular presence on the production floor and in plant areas.
The standard schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional overtime opportunities on Fridays as needed. The position involves working around industrial equipment and processes, and using standard office technology and safety management systems to perform reporting and analysis.
