Job Description
St. Thomas Aquinas College is seeking a qualified and motivated full time, 10 month, Assistant Athletic Trainer to support the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletic programs. Reporting to the Manager, Sports Medicine, the Assistant Athletic Trainer plays a key role in injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and athlete education. This position may be assigned primary team responsibilities during two of the three athletic seasons and support general athletic training room operations during the third season. Responsibilities include but not limited to the following: Provide athletic training coverage for scheduled home practices and intercollegiate contests Attend away contests as determined by the Manager, Sports Medicine Work collaboratively with team physicians regarding: Physician and hospital referrals Treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes Return-to-play decisions Administer first aid and emergency care to injured athletes Evaluate, document, and maintain accurate records of athletic injuries and treatments Apply preventative taping, bracing, and protective equipment as needed Perform therapeutic modalities and rehabilitation programs Maintain stocked first aid kits and training room supplies Open and close the athletic training room as scheduled Maintain a safe, clean, and organized athletic training environment Counsel coaches and student-athletes on conditioning, safety, injury prevention, nutrition, stretching, and reconditioning Communicate effectively with the Manager, Sports Medicine regarding athlete status, concerns, and operational needs Perform additional duties as assigned in support of the Athletics Department Qualifications National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Certification Eligible for New York State Athletic Trainer Licensure Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a related field from an accredited institution Athletic training experience at the college and/or high school level Current Advanced First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (American Red Cross or equivalent) Personal professional liability insurance Knowledge of taping, rehab and modalities College/High School athletic training experience preferred Application Please send the following materials electronically to Ms. Abbey Fallon, Manager, Sports Medicine, St. Thomas Aquinas College at afallon@stac.edu : a cover letter addressing the applicant's credentials and experience as they relate to the position; curriculum vitae; and names, email addresses and contact information for three professional references.
