This is a hands-on position where no two days are exactly alike. Our consumers have varying abilities and support needs. Some may require help with communication, social skills, daily living activities, toileting, or challenging behaviors. We provide one week of paid classroom and shadow training to help prepare you for the role. What You'll Do As a Behavior Technician, you may: Work one-on-one with consumers on individualized behavioral and developmental goals. Implement treatment plans using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles. Help consumers build communication, social, adaptive, and independent living skills. Participate in structured learning, interactive play, and skill-building activities. Collect and document behavioral data and consumer progress. Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, hygiene, diaper changing, and feeding assistance when required. Support consumers who may display challenging behaviors, including physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, property disruption, or attempts to leave the designated area. Follow established behavioral and safety procedures when responding to challenging situations. Communicate consumer progress and concerns with supervisors. Because services are based on each consumer's authorized service hours, this position does not follow a traditional fixed part-time schedule. Monday through Friday Weekends off Consumer sessions are typically 2-3 hours and may occasionally last up to approximately 4 hours. Candidates must have availability between approximately 9:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Availability during this time does not mean you will work continuously from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Actual hours depend on consumer assignments, authorized service hours, attendance, cancellations, and programming needs. Weekly hours may vary and are not guaranteed.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or GED Dependable and able to follow supervisor direction and treatment plans Comfortable working directly with children and individuals with developmental disabilities Willing to assist with personal care needs, including toileting Willing to learn ABA techniques and behavioral intervention strategies Strong communication and documentation skills Patient, compassionate, adaptable, and comfortable in an active work environment Preferred, but not required: Experience in ABA, behavioral health, autism services, developmental disabilities, childcare, education, special education, caregiving, or social services. Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position. Depending on consumer needs, employees may be required to: Stand and walk for extended periods Bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, and twist Sit on the floor and transition between floor-level and standing activities Participate in active play Move quickly in response to consumer behavior or safety needs Occasionally engage in short-distance running to maintain supervision or respond to a consumer attempting to leave the designated area Assist with toileting, hygiene, and other personal care needs Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Pre-Employment Requirements Candidates must successfully complete: DOJ and FBI fingerprint background clearance Pre-employment medical screening Tuberculosis (TB) clearance Special Explorers Center pays for the required background check and medical screening. A current TB clearance completed within the previous 12 months may be accepted with appropriate documentation. Why This Role?
