In this role:
You will use automated analyzers, microscopes and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment. You will be responsible for examining, interpreting and documenting microbiological cultures from animal specimens to support the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases. This role requires expertise in culture plate evaluation, organism identification, quality assurance practices and laboratory safety procedures. You can expect to specialize in reading, interpreting and documenting bacterial, fungal, and yeast cultures from a variety of animal specimens You will be evaluating colony morphology, growth characteristics, hemolysis patterns and organism abundance You should be able to perform and interpret gram stains and other microbiological staining procedures, utilize identification methods including biochemical testing, automated systems for testing and
MALDI-TOF
technology You will set up and run lab tests, then read and release results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures). You can expect to specialize in an assigned department; explore more about those here: https://careers.idexx.com/us/en/referencelaboratories What you need to succeed: You possess an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Veterinary Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related scientific field. You have an extensive skillset in microbiology, culture reading, knowledge of microbiological media, culture techniques and organism identification. Candidates must have culture reading experience in a high volume, fast paced laboratory Ideally, you will have experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers). You have a positive attitude and love to bring that energy into the lab every day to support your colleagues You are looking forward to working in a team You concentrate on the details and can work reliably and precisely You have a great sense of team spirit and responsibility Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals. Schedule:
The schedule for this position is: Monday - Friday The hours for this position are flexible! Start time is between 5am-9am This is a part time position You must be able to work one rotating weekend day The shifts and hours may vary slightly depending on business needs. Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
