Description:
Memorial Community Health, Inc. is looking to fill the position of Medical Technologist. Medical Technologist works in all sections of the Laboratory (Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis, and Phlebotomy). Duties include performing patient specimen collection through venipuncture, capillary or finger stick, or heel puncture; preparing specimens for testing; conducting chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine, and stool; participating and monitoring activities related to continuous quality control; preparing and maintaining documentation; and performing instrument maintenance. Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, CLS, MLS or equivalent required.
Job Duties:
Demonstrates basic knowledge and understanding of established testing procedures and protocol by remaining abreast of procedure manual and updates and performance in the following areas of laboratory testing: Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunoassay, Arterial Blood Gases, Urinalysis, Hemostasis, Transfusion Services, /Serology, Molecular Diagnostics, Phlebotomy, and other laboratory disciplines. Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood, urine and stool to determine presence of normal and abnormal components. Participates and monitors activities related to continuous quality control such as variance, change of status and quality assurance improvements. Performs general phlebotomy, including venipuncture, capillary or finger stick, heel puncture and radial arterial blood specimen collection and prepares these specimens for testing. Maintains responsibility for the performance and completion of defined equipment, instrument maintenance protocols and ensuring adequate supply levels. Monitors quality assurance programs and activities to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results. Assists in the maintenance of a steady flow of supplies for the lab by monitoring the availability of supplies and to ensure that key supplies are not exhausted. Performs instrument maintenance and maintains the physical laboratory space in a clean orderly fashion. Performs emergency treatment as required in accordance with MT scope of practice. Performs and maintains documentation. Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities. Follows HIPAA regulations and ensures that the confidentiality of residents' medical, personal, financial records, employee records, and organizational records is maintained. Complies, understands, and enforces state and federal regulatory requirements related to the performance of Memorial Community Health operations and requirements, including but not limited to HIPAA, the Code of Conduct, the Compliance Policy, Safety and Infection Control, all department and organization-wide policies, Critical Access Hospital requirements, and Federal and State of Nebraska regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, CLS, MLS required Completion of an accredited Medical Technologist, CLS, MLS, or equivalent program Previous experience with the use and limitation of laboratory equipment and apparatus Available to take call and respond within 20 minutes Ability to cross train to clinic lab and satellite labs
