Responsibilities Assist dentists during a variety of treatment procedures including general dentistry, oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing and organizing dental instruments and equipment according to infection prevention management protocols. Take and develop dental x-rays, including digital imaging and 3D scans, ensuring proper technique and patient safety. Manage patient records accurately using electronic medical records (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or similar software. Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining a clear field during procedures while practicing four-handed dentistry techniques. Collect vital signs and medical documentation to support comprehensive patient care while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Educate patients on oral health care practices, post-treatment instructions, and answer questions related to dental terminology and procedures. Maintain clinical cleanliness by processing dental instruments, sterilizing equipment according to aseptic techniques, and following infection control standards aligned with healthcare infection prevention policies. Support patient management by scheduling appointments, updating medical records, and ensuring a welcoming environment as a proficient dental receptionist when needed. Assist with dental equipment maintenance and troubleshooting to ensure optimal operation of all clinical tools including the dental chair, X-ray units, and 3D scanners. Experience Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred; familiarity with general dentistry procedures is essential. Knowledge of dental assisting practices including infection control procedures, dental sterilization processes, and aseptic techniques. Proficiency in using dental practice management software such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix for scheduling, billing, and record keeping. Experience with medical imaging techniques including X-ray technology specific to dentistry. Understanding of dental terminology across various specialties like prosthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery, and pediatric dentistry. Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages while demonstrating excellent patient management skills. Certification or training in radiography (X-ray) is desirable; ongoing professional development in healthcare infection control is advantageous.
