ANNOUNCEMENT

Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for one full-time, tenure track Coordinator/Instructor position in the Dental Hygiene degree and certificate programs within the Health Sciences & Homeland Securities division.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The successful applicant will serve as the coordinator and instructor in the Dental Hygiene program. As coordinator, the individual will be responsible for the organization, administration, periodic review, continued development, future accreditation and overall effectiveness of the educational program/courses. As an instructor, the individual will teach Dental Hygiene courses in both the traditional and computerized environment. The individual will also assess student performance, ensure faculty qualifications and collaborate with Dental Hygiene faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the program/courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Licensed Dentist or a licensed Dental Hygienist who has passed the NBDHE and be eligible to practice in the State of Illinois. a. Must have graduated from a CODA

Possesses or acquire within one year at least a Master's degree Three years of experience as a Dentist or Dental Hygienist in a dental practice capacity One year of teaching experience preferred. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills. Background in administrative activities including staffing, long-range planning, quality assessment/performance improvement, and evaluation of staff, preferred. Experience in accreditation activities, preferred. Competency with applicable software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, etc.) preferred. Ability to meet, successfully complete and maintain minimum health requirements, drug and/or reference checks required by college and/or clinical facilities prior to and throughout employment. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction established by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses. A valid driver's license is required.

STARTING PAY AND HOURS

This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the salary schedule. For example, the starting salary at Step 3 on the Masters column for the 2026-2027 Academic Year is $57,326, step 4 is $59,956, step 5 is $60,480, and step 6 is $61,379. The starting salary at Step 3 on the Ph.D. column for the 2026-2027 Academic Year is $64,229, step 4 is $66,773, step 5 is $67,764 and step 6 is $68,771. Voluntary overload and summer teaching assignments may also be available, which can increase the annual compensation up to 30%. The College also offers a comprehensive flexible benefit program.

WORK LOCATION

Fairview Heights with district-wide overload teaching opportunities. Driving may be required to other campuses, student field experience or internship sites. Driving may be required to reach off-campus sites, visit clinical facilities throughout the region and to attend professional functions within the state of Illinois and the St. Louis region.
