Hawkeye CommunityCollege has a great opportunity for you. The School of Science and Health Sciences is seeking a full-time faculty member to providehigh-quality Dental Assisting instruction. We are interested in finding a knowledgeable, positive professional role model to leadour growing program. The college provides a two-year faculty induction & mentoring program to support our newest faculty members. The publicwants training opportunities and the industry needs trained professionals - it is a great time for our Liberal Arts program and Career andTechnical programs to address both. Our full-time, twelve-month (12) faculty position, provides leadership and instruction in theDental Assisting program. As the successful candidate you would be committed to promoting positivity, growth, innovation, team development,diversity and inclusion. Full-time teaching assignments of 15-credit hours may include days, evenings, face-to-face, online, or hybridinstruction. The Dental Assisting program build a strong foundation of skills and competencies needed to besuccessful in today's fast-paced environment. Students are guided with support from faculty which possess both the necessary academiccredentials and industry experience within their respective disciplines. Program faculty also work with area business leaders to keepcurrent with the needs of local employers and incorporate these skills and competencies into program coursework. Essential Job Functions Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Designs and implements instruction aligned with student learning objectives/outcomes. Employs various instructionalmethods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, andproviding progress reports as requested and required. Formulates and maintains curriculum for assigned courses. Supervisesand advises students. Motivates, inspires and retains students in the program. Maintains and evaluates program and studentperformance. Maintains cooperative relationships with the Dean, Dental Administrative chair, other faculty, the program's AdvisoryCommittee, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community. Participates actively as a department member witha focus on student learning. Performs other duties as assigned. Unless otherwise approved, regular on campus and/or onsiteattendance is considered an essential function of the position. Minimum Qualifications The program chairmust be a Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" OR Dentist licensed to practice in the state ofIowa NOTE:
A dentalhygienist appointed after January 1, 2000, would be eligible for such an appointment after acquiring the "Certified Dental Assistant"credential offered by the Dental Assisting National Board and obtaining occupational experience in the application of clinical chairsidedental assisting involving fourhanded dentistry. Occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles,either as a dental assistant or working with a chairside assistant. Three (3) years of full-time recent experience in clinicaldentistry. Bachelor's degree or higher. Instruction in educational theory and methodology, e.g., curriculum development,educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation OR willingness to complete training within 60 days ofstart. Certified in CPR, First Aid, and Mandatory Reporter Child and Adult Dependents OR willingness to obtain within 60 days ofhire. Demonstrated ability to innovate and grow. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new and current technical skillsand ideas. Demonstrated strong organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills topositively interact with students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrated motivation to serve students from all backgrounds andeducational experiences. Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of people such as faculty, staff, students, and the generalpublic in a professional and personable manner. Working Conditions Teaching assignments may include days,evenings, face-to-face, online, or hybrid instruction. A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical. Work isperformed either in or a combination of an office, lab and/or classroom setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordinationincluding visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit,stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During the course of day, you will interact with students, faculty and staff inperson, by telephone and computers. Employment Status Full time, twelve-month faculty contractual position withcomprehensive or competitive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical anddependent care expenses; holiday, personal, sick leave; tuition reimbursement/remission; and a choice of retirement programs-IPERS (definedbenefit) or TIAA (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's education and experience based on theHawkeye Professional Educators' Associate Master Agreement. The 2026/2027 Academic Year 12-month faculty pay structure consists of20 steps with Step 1 as $61,141 through Step 20 as $80,814.
