Job Description

What if you could have the autonomy of private practice without having to build the business behind it—while still being part of a collaborative team of exceptional clinicians? KBMHS is a multidisciplinary behavioral health practice in Knoxville, Tennessee, designed for clinicians who want independence, flexibility, clinical autonomy, and a strong referral infrastructure without carrying the administrative burden of running a practice alone. We believe clinicians do their best work when they have both autonomy and connection . Our goal is to bring together highly skilled, compassionate, and motivated professionals who take pride in their work and genuinely enjoy working alongside other clinicians. Although our providers practice independently, we intentionally cultivate a warm, collaborative, and supportive team environment where people know one another, share knowledge, consult when needed, and celebrate each other's successes. You choose your schedule, caseload, specialties, service delivery model, and clinical approach. KBMHS handles the business infrastructure. You focus on your clients. And together, we create a practice where clinicians can do meaningful work and enjoy the people they work alongside. This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity — not a W-2 position. Why Clinicians Choose KBMHS You may be a great fit for KBMHS if you want to: Build or expand a private-practice caseload without having to market yourself Work part-time, full-time, or somewhere in between Provide telehealth, in-person services, or a combination Choose the populations and clinical specialties you want to serve Maintain control over your schedule and availability Avoid billing, claims follow-up, credentialing, and administrative work Maintain clinical autonomy Work alongside other highly qualified mental health professionals Have access to consultation and professional support Develop a specialty caseload over time Be part of a practice that intentionally prioritizes a healthy team culture Build genuine professional relationships with colleagues Work in an environment where people support one another rather than compete with one another You Practice. We Handle the Infrastructure. You Have a Team Around You. KBMHS provides the infrastructure that allows independent clinicians to focus on clinical care, including: Referrals & Intake Client intake and screening Referral matching based on your specialties and availability Scheduling infrastructure Client communication support Billing & Credentialing Insurance credentialing and paneling support Claims submission Billing and collections Payment follow-up Administrative support related to insurance participation Technology HIPAA-compliant EHR Telehealth platform Practice communication tools Clinical documentation infrastructure Clinical Community Multidisciplinary consultation Peer consultation opportunities Case consultation Quarterly educational opportunities and CE programming Referral connections across disciplines when clinically appropriate Independent Does Not Mean Alone One of the things that makes KBMHS different is our belief that clinical independence and teamwork can coexist. If you enjoy working in a team environment and don't enjoy practicing in isolation, you may find KBMHS to be a particularly good fit. Our clinicians are independent contractors, but we don't want an independent practice to feel like a collection of people working in separate silos. We are intentional about cultivating a practice culture where clinicians can know one another, collaborate, learn from one another, and enjoy working together. We value people who are generous with their knowledge, supportive of their colleagues, and genuinely interested in being part of a multidisciplinary community. Our team includes professionals with different backgrounds, specialties, perspectives, and areas of expertise. That diversity makes our clinical community stronger and creates opportunities for meaningful collaboration and appropriate cross-disciplinary referrals.
We Are Looking For Clinicians Who:
Are excellent clinicians who take pride in the quality of their work Enjoy working as part of a team Value collegial relationships and professional connection Appreciate consultation and collaboration Are willing to share ideas, resources, and knowledge Support their colleagues and celebrate their successes Are comfortable asking questions and seeking consultation when appropriate Are willing to offer support and expertise to others Communicate openly, respectfully, and professionally Contribute positively to the culture of the practice Work hard and follow through on their professional responsibilities Are dependable and committed to providing excellent care Want to grow professionally alongside other high-caliber clinicians We work hard, and we take our clinical responsibilities seriously. But we also believe that work can be warm, collegial, supportive, and enjoyable. We are building a practice where people can be proud of both the work they do and the people they do it with. Your Practice, Your Way KBMHS is intentionally structured around clinician independence.
You determine:
Your availability Your caseload size The populations you want to serve The specialties you want to emphasize Whether you provide telehealth, in-person care, or both Your clinical approach and treatment modalities Which referrals you are able to accept based on your professional judgment and availability There are no productivity quotas, mandatory meetings, or employer-style scheduling requirements. You are responsible for maintaining your professional license, clinical competence, documentation, and all obligations associated with your independent practice. Who We're Looking For We are looking for clinicians who are excellent clinicians and excellent teammates. You don't have to practice exactly like everyone else. In fact, we value the different perspectives, experiences, and specialties that each clinician brings to KBMHS. What matters is that you are committed to: Clinical excellence. You take your work seriously and provide thoughtful, ethical, evidence-based care. Professionalism. You communicate well, follow through, maintain appropriate boundaries, and take responsibility for your practice. Teamwork. You understand that being an independent contractor does not mean operating in isolation. Growth. You are open to learning, consultation, continuing education, and developing your clinical skills. A healthy practice culture. You contribute to an environment where colleagues feel respected, supported, valued, and welcomed. Required Licensed master's or doctoral degree in social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology, or related clinical discipline Appropriate Tennessee license or associate-level credential/registration for the services being provided Ability to practice within the scope of your Tennessee credential Ability to manage your own clinical schedule Reliable internet connection and private, HIPAA-appropriate space for telehealth Professional liability coverage or willingness to obtain appropriate coverage Strong clinical documentation and communication skills Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a collaborative team Especially Interested In Generalist Therapists Clinicians comfortable treating a broad range of presenting concerns and working with diverse populations. Child & Adolescent Therapists Especially clinicians trained in or interested in: Play therapy PCIT Parent coaching Child behavioral interventions Family therapy Neurodiversity-affirming care Couples & Family Therapists Clinicians with advanced training or significant experience providing couples and family therapy. Psychologists Psychologists interested in psychological assessment/testing for children, adolescents, adults, or older adults are encouraged to apply. Specialty Clinicians We are also interested in clinicians with expertise in areas such as trauma, OCD, eating disorders, ADHD, autism/neurodiversity, women's mental health, older adults, and other specialized populations. A Different Kind of Practice Our goal is to create a practice where: Clinicians have autonomy. Clients receive excellent care. Different disciplines work together. Colleagues support one another. People enjoy coming to work. And the practice grows because everyone contributes to its success. We are looking for people who want to be part of building that environment—not simply people looking for a place to see clients. Compensation Compensation is based on completed clinical services and the caseload you choose to maintain. Because this is an independent contractor position, compensation is not a guaranteed salary or hourly wage and there are no employer-sponsored benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions. Independent contractors are responsible for their own taxes and other obligations associated with self-employment. Specific compensation information will be discussed during the interview process. Work Setting Knoxville, Tennessee Options may include: Telehealth from your own private workspace In-person services at KBMHS Hybrid practice Your service delivery model can be based on your professional preferences, availability, and the needs of your caseload.
