Full Job Description Overview:

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Provide first-line medical or emergency care for sick or injured patients.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Accurately obtain and document vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure. Use emergency skills and knowledge to assess a patient's cardiac and respiratory status or manage and respond to emergencies. Assist with the completion of patient biopsychosocial assessment, including assisting with admission and discharge of patients. Monitor physical and emotional well-being of patients and report unusual behavior or physical ailments to appropriate staff. Prepare and maintain records of progress and services performed. Give medications, following instructions from physicians, other prescribing medical professionals or where approved by state law or regulations for EMTs. Collaborate with other staff in working with the population of the facility to treat, rehabilitate and return patients to the community. Comply with organizational policies, procedures, performance improvement initiatives and maintain organizational and industry policies regarding confidentiality. Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always. When patient needs are not met, acknowledge and work to resolve complaints. Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or equivalent required. Additional education or training which results in certification or licensure as an EMT per state requirements required. Previous experience in behavioral health setting, as well as knowledge and experience working with the population of the facility, preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS

Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) licensure, per state requirements. CPR, de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility). First aid may be required based on state or facility.
