Job Description

Compensation:
$22 per hour (rates may be higher when personal training, teaching chronic disease, and group excercise)

Membership Requirements:
The qualified candidate for the Health Initiatives Coordinator position will be at least 21 years old, and work within the framework and philosophy of the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs and in accordance with the policies of the Cheshire YMCA Health & Wellness Department to provide comprehensive wellness programs and to assure maximum safety for all members and program participants. Candidate should have at least 3 years of fitness instruction in a class setting and have an understanding of the specific wellness programs' objectives, procedures and needs or be willing to be trained and certified for the programs. Must instruct, supervise, and provide positive encouragement to YMCA members and program participants. Assist in the design of new programs and implement safe, effective and enjoyable wellness programs that will meet the unique needs and wants of the Cheshire community. Must have the ability to instruct, guide and work with individuals of multi-level skills and capabilities. Have Professional Rescuer CPR and Standard First Aid certification within three months of employment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs a must. Candidate must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and continuously follow and promote the YMCA philosophy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Health Initiatives Coordinator works within the framework and philosophy of the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs and in accordance with the policies of the Cheshire YMCA Health & Wellness Department to provide direct leadership for health initiatives, chronic disease prevention programs, and other wellness programs serving the Cheshire community.
  • Maintain current certifications and keep up on current wellness trends
  • Maintain high quality programs
  • Evaluate program content and schedule
  • Notify the Health and Wellness Director of any problems or concerns
  • Teach or oversee all wellness programs
  • Coordinate all chronic disease prevention program marketing in conjunction with the Health and Wellness Director and/or the Marketing Director
  • Create annual schedule for wellness programs
  • Recruit participants for wellness programs
  • Coordinate with community partners to schedule guest speakers for all wellness programs
  • Maintain all records for wellness programs including survey results and program outcomes
  • Commit to providing personal training for 4-12 hours per week based on department needs and client demand
  • Use remaining scheduled hours for program administration, participant follow-up, staff training, program evaluation, recordkeeping, and other departmental responsibilities
  • Lead a variety of wellness classes, programs, orientations, and member appointments as assigned

From $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 28.0 per week
