Job Description

Scope:
To provide professional expertise and oversight in the planning and implementation of comprehensive health and nutrition services to agency clients including children, young adults and adults. Essential Functions Design, implement and manage the agencies Health and Nutrition programming. Including internal programming and external partners. Support training to staff, families and community partners on health and nutrition including; Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)Summer Food Service Program(SFSP), Early and Periodic, Screening Diagnosis and Treatment (EPSDT), CPR, First Aide, Medication, and Health and Safety trainings. Responsible for overseeing record keeping , reporting, and menu planning in compliance with USDA/CACFP, SFSP and Head Start guidelines including completion and submission of the Coordinated application from Michigan Department of Education. Work collaboratively with the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Office of Contracts and Procurement to coordinate the review and approval of contracts for all vendors and participating school districts, ensuring compliance with applicable state, federal, and program requirements. In conjunction with the Nutrition Managers, oversee food service operations, including food purchasing, food quality, and vendor compliance. Ensure invoices, purchasing records, and food quality standards are maintained at the highest level and in accordance with USDA, CACFP, SFSP, and Head Start requirements. Assist agency in developing programs and experiences that will support and enhance the clients role as the principal influence in their families health, nutrition and development. Engage in ongoing monitoring of agency level health and nutrition data to encourage and improve healthy living. Lead and promote efforts to ensure the health and safety of clients including staff, children and adults per agency, federal, state and local policies, including active participation in agency level Safety Committee. A self-starter with the ability to multitask to meet various deadlines and complete task. Provide direct supervision and oversight to department staff including managers and coordinators. Prepare and distribute timely reporting and tracking regarding health and nutrition documentation. Complete monthly reports on area activities and program progress toward goals with recommended modifications to plans. Analyze data and reports using abstract reasoning. Attend community meetings and events within all service areas to promote community awareness for the purpose of program recruitment and enrollment. Identify, cultivate, and maintain collaborative organizational partners, including school districts, community agencies that host SFSP, higher education, social services agencies. Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others Serve as an advocate for low-income persons in the community through means that may include but not be limited to membership in an advocacy group, participation in a professional organization, and efforts to affect present community services in a manner that would insure their greater availability or efficiency. Act as an advocate for agency clients attempting to secure services or assistance from other agencies. Ensure no Child is left unsupervised at any time. Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures. Participate in staff development and in-service training activities. Attend agency departmental meetings and trainings. Perform related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment Schools/Professional:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, sit, see, talk and hear, and use hands to manipulate. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The employee is required to supervise students, requiring the employee to match walking speed that matches the student and may at times require the ability to run to safeguard students. The employee must occasionally lift (up to 50 pounds), carry, and move students. Employees must occasionally move equipment and/or supplies. The job is performed for the most part in a school setting with occasional outside weather conditions. The noise level is that of a typical school setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Nursing, Public Health, or Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist, Food Service Administration OR a minimum of five to eight years of experience in a related field OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent. Public Health Experience Preferred Proficiency in a second language is a plus. Requires knowledge of child care licensing regulations.
Minimum Competencies:
Proficient knowledge of internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position. Strong interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability. Ability to communicate effectively to individuals and groups both orally and in writing. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisors, colleagues, and all agency staff. Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers. Ability to work with children and families with disabilities. Ability to communicate effectively with young children and their families. Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with parents/caregivers. Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary). Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro's policies and procedures, including Head Start Standards of Conduct. Comply with all policies/procedures, State licensing regulations, Head Start Performance standards and GSRP standards. Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures. Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner.
Licensing and Other Requirements:
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to pass
State of Michigan Child Care Background Check Travel Requirements:
Ability to travel to various sites.
Work Hours:
Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
