GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The School of Education provides academic study and training to students seeking teaching careers in the field of public, private, or Christian education. Based on its conceptual framework, the School of Education has adopted the theme statement, "Educators who demonstrate scholarship within a Christian ethic of care." The teacher education programs at Southern Wesleyan University are fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). In addition to specific academic requirements, SWU strives to create a distinctively Christian environment that fosters the integration of faith, learning, and living. Successful candidates must enhance and support this mission. This is a part-time faculty (adjunct), contingent position. Work is performed off-site. This position is available Fall 2023.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

Clinical supervisors are the front line of a three-person team to support the South Carolina State Department of Education teacher candidate certification requirements. Face-to-face interaction with the teacher candidate, cooperating teacher and other team member ensures that the teacher candidate follows Southern Wesleyan University clinical requirements for graduation and certification.

Additional responsibilities include:

Required to attend a training session with the Coordinator of Student Placements prior to meeting student teachers. This meeting is designed to acquaint the Clinical Supervisor with the policies and procedures for supervision of teacher candidates and train him/her in the state evaluation system. Be knowledgeable in the new State Clinical requirements and completed the 3-day training. Expected to travel to a variety of placement locations within a 25-mile radius of the site and may be asked to travel further. Provide feedback to the student- teacher individually and in collaboration with the cooperating teacher and the secondary university supervisor in face-to-face meetings at school locations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic. Candidates must possess an earned master's degree certification in Elementary, Early Childhood, Special Education, Physical Education, Music Education or Secondary Education. Candidates must have a valid Administration and Teaching certification for South Carolina to include Enhanced ADEPT training. Candidates will need to seek NIET Evaluator training if hired. Teaching Experience. Candidates must have demonstrated successful teaching experience in public or private school. Mission and Lifestyle Expectations.
