At Shine, our day program happens in the community. Rather than spending the day in a traditional facility, we are out volunteering, exercising, exploring, learning new skills, building relationships, and participating in activities throughout the community.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Shine is looking for an outgoing, energetic, patient, compassionate, and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP). This is a great position for someone who enjoys being active, connecting with people, taking initiative, and working independently while also being part of a supportive team. DSPs support individuals throughout their day as they participate in community activities, work toward personal goals, develop life and social skills, build independence, and make meaningful connections. You may support a group of up to six individuals and will transport and support them at various locations throughout the community. A typical day might include volunteering, working out, hiking, bowling, swimming, cooking, visiting local businesses and community organizations, playing games or sports, attending adaptive programs, or doing arts and crafts. No two days are exactly the same!

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Support individuals in building independence, relationships, and a sense of belonging in their community. Encourage community involvement, inclusion, self-advocacy, and responsible choices. Help individuals work toward their person-centered goals. Teach and model social, communication, safety, and independent living skills. Actively participate in activities alongside the individuals you support and encourage engagement. Help individuals develop natural supports and connections within the community. Provide safe transportation to and from activities and community locations. Provide appropriate supervision and support for each individual's health, safety, and well-being. Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) as needed, including toileting, changing, personal hygiene, clothing assistance, and other personal care. Follow individual service plans, goals, support needs, and required levels of supervision. Complete accurate daily documentation and required paperwork within established timeframes. Document and report incidents appropriately. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Communicate and work collaboratively with coworkers, supervisors, families, caregivers, and community partners. Represent Shine positively while helping promote greater awareness of the abilities and contributions of people with disabilities.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We're looking for someone who is: Dependable, responsible, patient, compassionate, and positive. Comfortable working independently in community-based settings. A strong communicator and team member. Flexible and able to adapt to changing schedules, activities, and individual needs. Able to use good judgment and problem-solving skills. Comfortable being active and participating alongside the individuals we support. Comfortable providing hands-on personal care when needed. Able to complete required documentation accurately and on time. Professional, respectful, and committed to providing person-centered support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be 21 years of age or older. Must successfully complete all required background checks. Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Must have access to a reliable personal vehicle and be willing to use it to transport individuals receiving services when needed. Mileage is reimbursed for required use of a personal vehicle. Company minivans may be provided based on group size, transportation needs, and availability. Employees supporting larger groups will typically use a company vehicle. Must be comfortable transporting individuals in either a personal or company-provided vehicle as assigned. Must be able to participate in active community-based activities and provide hands-on support as needed. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds when required to perform job duties. Must have access to a personal cell phone for clocking in/out and a cell phone or computer for completing required documentation. Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required.
