Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide exceptional care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and aging-related needs. In this vital role, you will empower residents to achieve their highest level of independence by assisting with daily activities, monitoring health and safety, and fostering a positive, respectful environment. Duties Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using manual handling techniques such as Hoyer lifts and patient transfer methods. Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing for changes in condition, and reporting findings accurately while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality. Administer medications as prescribed, following care plans meticulously and documenting all medication administration activities. Support residents during meal preparation, feeding, and ensuring proper nutrition tailored to individual dietary needs. Provide companionship and engage residents in meaningful activities that promote cognitive and emotional well-being, including Alzheimer's care, memory care, and activities for individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities. Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light cleaning duties within the residence or community setting. Assist with transportation for appointments or community outings using personal transportation assistance or agency-provided vehicles. Observe residents closely for signs of distress or changes in condition related to dementia, geriatrics, or other health issues such as hospice or home health needs; respond promptly with appropriate interventions like first aid or CPR when necessary. Experience Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health environments is highly preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of patient monitoring techniques, medication administration, and patient personal care assistance. Experience working with individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, dementia, or neurodevelopmental disorders is essential. Familiarity with care plans development and implementation to support individualized resident goals. Certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications such as Hoyer lift operation or HIPAA training are advantageous. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, team members, and healthcare providers. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and conduct manual handling tasks necessary for resident transfers and mobility support.
