Job Overview Direct Support Professional - Day Program We are seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide meaningful support to individuals participating in our day program. In this vital role, you will help individuals build independence, develop daily living and social skills, participate in engaging activities, and become active members of their community. Responsibilities Provide individualized support and supervision to program participants throughout the day while promoting independence and personal choice. Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, mobility, and restroom needs as required. Support participants in developing and maintaining daily living, vocational, social, communication, and community-based skills. Plan and participate in structured activities such as arts and crafts, recreational activities, educational activities, exercise, cooking, life-skills training, and community outings. Encourage participation in community activities and provide transportation assistance when required. Assist participants with meal preparation, snacks, feeding, and nutritional needs while encouraging independence and appropriate mealtime skills. Provide mobility and transfer assistance, including the safe use of Hoyer lifts and other adaptive equipment when applicable. Monitor participants for changes in physical health, behavior, mood, or overall well-being and promptly report concerns to the appropriate supervisor or healthcare professional. Implement individual service plans, behavioral support plans, and program goals as directed. Promote positive social interactions and assist participants in developing appropriate communication and interpersonal skills. Support individuals with behavioral, developmental, intellectual, or physical disabilities using respectful and person-centered approaches. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of attendance, activities, services provided, progress toward goals, incidents, and other required program records. Follow all HIPAA, safety, emergency, infection-control, and agency policies to protect participant privacy and well-being. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming program environment. Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, supervisors, therapists, healthcare professionals, and other members of the individual's support team. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development activities as required. Requirements Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, autism, behavioral health needs, or other diverse support needs is highly preferred. Experience in a day program, group home, assisted living facility, residential program, school, community-based program, or home health setting is advantageous. Knowledge of person-centered care, developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or behavioral support is a plus. Current CPR and First Aid certification is required or must be obtained within the required timeframe. Ability to safely assist with mobility, transfers, and physical support, including lifting and manual handling when required. Ability to operate or learn to operate adaptive and transfer equipment, including Hoyer lifts, when applicable. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and observational skills. Ability to work patiently and respectfully with individuals with varying physical, cognitive, behavioral, and communication needs. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required for community outings or participant transportation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable agency policies and regulations. Must be dependable, energetic, patient, and committed to providing person-centered support.
