WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide personalized care and support to individuals with disabilities, helping them live independently, participate in their communities, and achieve personal goals.
WORK SCHEDULE & LOCATION
  • Full time
  • Monday - Friday; 7:45 AM - 3:15 PM
Location:
Pottsville, PA
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Comply with all policies/procedures and represent Avenues in a professional, ethical, and positive manner
  • Always maintain appropriate confidentiality
  • Advocate for the well-being of those Avenues serves
  • Report any unsafe condition, accident, illness or suspected neglect/abuse immediately to supervisor or designee
  • Complete all required staff training hours annually as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned and work assigned hours/schedule
  • Will perform Safe Crisis Management techniques as trained
  • Work with varied individuals, within various ratios, as assigned by Site Supervisor or Lead Staff
  • Provide supervision and guidance to program participants and ensure all their needs are being met
  • Implement each program participant's plans/goals as written (such as an ISP, IPP, and/or Behavior Support Plan)
  • Plan and carry out meaningful group and individual activities, in person (or virtually, if directed by supervisor)
  • Encourage communication and give people a means to do so
  • Assist with activities of daily living and personal care, including toileting, bathing, feeding, hygiene, etc.
  • Complete all documentation/reports, as required or assigned, and ensure accuracy of the information provided
  • Promote inclusion of people with disabilities into the community
  • Provide input to the Activity Coordinator and/or Program Specialist regarding program activities and services
  • Participate as a member of team meetings, such as the interdisciplinary team, for program participants
  • Administer medications, as per DHS Medication Administration Guidelines
  • Continuously be aware of, observe, and evaluate the needs, special situations, and physical/behavioral changes of participants and act accordingly
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of program participants in the programs and while offsite on community outings
  • Safely operate vehicles and implement community-based outings, daily or as assigned
  • Transport participants, driving/using personal transport and/or agency vehicles, daily or as assigned
  • Follow individual diets and always feeding protocols, and prepare or serve meals/snacks as required
  • Travel to any other Avenues programs, for work or training, as assigned and/or as scheduled by supervisor
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Acceptable results on all pre-employment testing, background checks, clearances, and renewal testing.
  • Comply with all physical demands of the job (with or without reasonable accommodation).
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possess basic computer skills & the ability to learn various computer applications
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
COMPENSATION
  • $16.
25 an hour
