Job Description

Job Overview:
The Research Technician is to prepare probiotic strains for finished formats (capsules, tablets, stick packs, etc.) for R&D research. This includes weighing and blending probiotic powders and herbal ingredients to be put into the finished format. They will also help the microbiologist in validating the stability testing on the probiotic finished format by preparing media and agar plates. The individual is required to follow cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices), all Standard Operating Procedures, and Food Safety Regulations. Duties/Responsibilities Carry out activities in creating finished formats of probiotics (capsules, tablets, stick packs, etc.) Stability study design and data generation as per ICH guideline for both herbal and probiotic formulations Flavor and sensory development for the probiotic strains and herbal Formulation, design and analysis of dietary supplements and stabilizing them and optimizing the process Formulation for clinical studies Ordering excipients and flavors for the formulation and generating a supplier qualification program for our plant by working in collaboration with QA Providing technical assistance to plant in terms of trouble shooting and daily maintenance Conduct compatibility studies between probiotics and herbal Maintain purchase orders for all laboratory processes and monitor inventory Media and agar plate preparation using sterilizing techniques Document results in lab notebooks and update corresponding spreadsheets Perform basic laboratory tasks and experimental work as directed by immediate supervisor Maintain knowledge on various research methods and perform all manual operations on various supplies Assist other microbiologists, as necessary, for timely project completion and support other lab personnel as required Comply with Health, Safety, and Environmental responsibilities Follow SOPs for methods and equipment in the laboratory Additional Responsibilities and Safety Duties

  • Keeps management informed of area activities and any significant problems
  • Following equipment SOP to ensure all equipment is functioning properly and safely Qualifications
  • Ability to always maintain integrity and honesty and to communicate with transparency
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Solid understanding of cGMP's and GLP and is familiar with 21 CFR Part 111
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Good documentation practice and ability to write simple, clear reports
  • Meets commitments on time and practices time management skills
  • Seeks to identify continuous improvement needs
  • Experience with rapid microbial testing procedures is an advantage
  • Hard working and positive attitude Education/Experience
  • BS in Microbiology/Biotechnology/Life Sciences or related scientific disciplines Work Environment
  • Work is regularly performed inside a laboratory environment where temperatures can be moderate, exposure to dust, odors, noise, and fumes. The noise level is usually moderate. Employees can be exposed daily to chemicals and cleaning agents.
  • May execute up to 20% of their work at the bench level either standing or sitting on a stool
  • Work performed in a standard office environment is without unpleasant or hazardous conditions Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to wear all PPE including a lab coat, face mask, booties, gloves, safety glasses/goggles, and respirators
