Job Summary:
Accountable for performing a variety of qualitative and quantitative laboratory tests, both manual and automated, of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
Other duties include:
responsibility for documentation of all activities, monitoring supplies; compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and laboratory testing; face to face and telephone customer service; computer data entry and retrieval; workplace cleanliness and maintenance. Follows all laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Analyzes patient samples and evaluates the reliability of test results according to age, gender, and specimen acceptability criteria prior to releasing information for use in patient care and treatment. Performs calibration procedures, and analyzes and verifies the acceptability of Quality Control values prior to analyzing patient samples. Participates in assigned proficiency surveys, performance improvement activities, and mandatory continuing education programs. Performs and documents routine maintenance and minor instrument repairs. Performs Laboratory and Hospital Information Systems (LIS and HIS) computer functions involved in preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic processes. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
Associates General Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. MLT(ASCP)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician or MLT(AAB)
  • Medical Laboratory Technician or MT(AAB)
  • Medical Technologist or MT(HEW)
  • Medical Technologist or MT(ASCP)
  • Medical Technologist Additional License(s) and Certification(s): Also acceptable: CLT (NCA)
Upon Hire Required Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 1 year in a CLIA accredited laboratory
Preferred Required Minimum Skills:
Extensive organizational skills Basic computer knowledge Experience in using epic, any LIS, Microsoft software, Outlook, Remisol, etc•
