The LPN assists with medical and developmental care, maintains accurate documentation, and supports family-centered care in compliance with Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) regulations and PPEC standards. Key Duties & Responsibilities Direct Patient Care Provide safe, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate care to children with complex medical needs. Monitor and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, following physician orders and under RN supervision. Perform skilled nursing procedures such as tracheostomy care, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feeding, oxygen therapy, and seizure management (with appropriate training and delegation). Assist children with daily living activities, including feeding, toileting, bathing, hygiene, and mobility. Clinical Support & Monitoring Observe and promptly report any changes in a child's condition to the supervising RN or DON. Maintain awareness of infection control standards and implement universal precautions. Participate in emergency responses (e.g., CPR, first aid, seizure protocols). Support therapy integration by assisting with physical, occupational, and speech therapy activities as directed. Documentation & Communication Accurately chart nursing care provided, treatments administered, and child responses in medical records. Maintain documentation that meets AHCA, HIPAA, and facility standards. Communicate effectively with RNs, physicians, therapists, and family members. Support family training by reinforcing caregiver education provided by RNs and therapists. Collaboration & Teamwork Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff (RNs, therapists, teachers, aides, and administrative staff). Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and quality improvement initiatives. Assist in mentoring new staff and sharing knowledge of pediatric care practices. Regulatory & Safety Compliance Adhere to facility policies, procedures, and PPEC regulations. Follow infection control, sanitation, and safety procedures. Report accidents, incidents, or hazards immediately per policy. Ensure equipment (feeding pumps, suction machines, monitors) is clean, safe, and functioning. Qualifications /

Skills Education & Licensure:

Current Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.

Experience:

Pediatric, NICU, PICU, home health, or PPEC experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge:

Familiarity with medically fragile children, ventilators, tracheostomy care, gastrostomy tubes, and seizure management preferred.

Strong clinical assessment and observation skills Excellent communication and teamwork Compassion, patience, and ability to work with children and families Ability to follow detailed instructions and physician/RN orders Good documentation and organizational skills Work Environment Direct care setting with close contact with children, families, and staff. May require lifting, bending, and assisting with mobility devices. Exposure to infectious diseases is possible; PPE and infection control standards are mandatory. Requires attentiveness to both medical and developmental needs of children.
