Responsibilities may include:

Prepare examination and treatment rooms prior to patient arrival. Room patients and support efficient patient flow. Assist with patient check-in, admission, discharge, and transfer processes. Obtain and document vital signs, including temperature, respirations, pulse, weight, blood pressure, and pulse oximetry. Obtain and document medical history, medication history, allergies, chief complaints, and other relevant clinical information. Perform authorized diagnostic procedures as ordered by providers. Assist physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals with examinations and procedures. Complete laboratory, imaging, and X-ray requisitions according to clinic procedures. Enter patient demographic and clinical information into applicable electronic systems. Maintain examination rooms, equipment, and clinical supply inventory. Support patient education and discharge instructions under provider direction. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, infection prevention, safety, and institutional policies. Communicate professionally with patients, families, providers, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. Internal Medicine & Pediatrics Responsibilities Depending on assignment, additional responsibilities may include: Operate clinical equipment such as automatic and manual blood pressure monitors, nebulizers, 12-lead EKG machines, electronic thermometers, tympanometers, and IV infusion pumps for setup purposes. Utilize electronic healthcare systems including MHS GENESIS and CarePoint . Complete patient intake, appointment scheduling, referrals, medication refill and renewal workflows, and patient registration tasks. Assist providers with invasive and non-invasive examinations and procedures. Administer oral medications, subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections as authorized. Administer immunizations and nebulizer treatments following required training and competency validation. Document medications and treatments administered and report adverse reactions. Perform venipuncture for blood collection. Establish IV access following appropriate training and demonstrated competency. Monitor and discontinue IV therapy as directed. Monitor patients undergoing procedures and promptly communicate significant changes in condition to the appropriate licensed provider.

Orthopedics / Maxillofacial

Surgery Responsibilities Medical Assistants assigned to Orthopedics or Maxillofacial Surgery may provide clinical and operational support to the Nurse Practitioner and surgical team across outpatient, inpatient, and procedural settings.

Responsibilities may include:

Support Maxillofacial Surgery providers during outpatient clinics, inpatient activities, and procedural encounters. Prepare patients and examination or procedure rooms. Assist with minor procedures under the direction of licensed providers. Assist with wound care, dressing changes, specimen handling, and authorized suture removal. Coordinate referrals, imaging studies, laboratory testing, scheduling, and follow-up appointments. Support clinical documentation and electronic health record workflows. Assist with patient education, discharge instructions, and care coordination. Maintain equipment readiness and clinical supply inventory. Support patient safety, quality improvement, infection control, and operational initiatives. Help maintain efficient patient throughput and clinic flow. Experience in ENT, Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthopedics, surgical specialties, hospital-based care, or other procedural clinical environments is highly desirable for these assignments. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet the following requirements: Education Certificate or diploma from an approved Medical Assistant training program. The program must be accredited by or meet requirements established by one of the following organizations: Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) Graduates of a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces may also qualify. Experience Minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant within the previous two years . Certain specialty assignments may prefer 1-2 years of clinical Medical Assistant experience. Certification Candidates must possess a current Medical Assistant certification or registration , such as: Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Registered Medical Assistant through American Medical Technologists (AMT) Other qualifying formal Medical Assistant certification programs Basic Life Support Current AHA or American Red Cross BLS Healthcare Provider certification required. Security Must be able to successfully complete and maintain all required Government background investigation and security requirements.
