Works closely with staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure that the highest standards of quality and service are maintained. Oversees the implementation of quality improvement efforts designed to improve clinical performance and maintain compliance with JCAHO, HIPAA, and other accreditation standards. Evaluates developments in medical care and makes recommendations for new practices and procedures. Advises CEO and medical teams on matters impacting patient care.

JOB LOCATION
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital
JOB PURPOSE
The Chief Medical Officer - Medical Affairs is responsible for providing a liaison between the Medical Staff and Administration. This individual must be able to function as a staff's advocate to the Administration as well as the Administration's advocate to the staff. The Chief Medical Officer - Medical Affairs administers the Hospital Division's Medical Affairs Department and is responsible for the administrative medical matters of the Hospital. This position will also enhance the organization's ability to effectively utilize resources by monitoring clinical care processes and clinical resource consumption.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
MBA or Masters Degree in Medical Management/Quality is desirable. Additional education and coursework in management and business would enhance candidacy
Experience/Specialized Skills/Aptitudes:
At least ten (10) years of clinical practice with a reputation as an excellent physician. Well-developed experience in Medical Administration preferred. Must possess excellent organizational, time management and interpersonal skills. Must have demonstrated experience in collaboration and teamwork. Excellent verbal ability to understand medical terminology, for preparing written reports in technical language. Managerial and organizational skills. Must have extensive utilization management experience necessary to operate in a capitated managed care environment, ideally with experience in facilitating the transition from fee-for-service to capitation.
Licenses/Certificates:
Physician MD or DO, Board Certification in a clinical discipline is required; current valid Pennsylvania State Medical License
