AnimalKind | Hudson, NY | Full-Time | In Person AnimalKind is looking for an experienced, passionate Shelter Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our growing animal welfare organization. This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader who wants to make a meaningful difference—not only in the lives of animals, but in the community we serve. The Shelter Manager is a key member of our leadership team, responsible for ensuring that shelter and clinic operations run safely, efficiently, humanely, and in alignment with AnimalKind's mission.
WHAT YOU'LL LEAD
Shelter & Clinic Operations:
intake, shelter animal care, adoptions, foster care, behavior plans, animal flow, and facility operations.
People & Culture:
Lead, mentor, schedule, and develop staff and volunteers while building a positive, collaborative team environment.
Animal Welfare:
Ensure exceptional standards of care, manage population and capacity-for-care, oversee behavior and placement decisions, and participate in outcome decisions.
Programs & Compliance:
Develop and improve programs, policies, procedures, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance.
Community Engagement:
Represent AnimalKind at outreach events, wellness clinics, adoption events, and community programs.
Mission Advancement:
Work alongside the Executive Director and leadership team on fundraising, marketing, outreach, and organizational initiatives. You will lead our care coordinators, the adoptions function, our volunteer and foster programs, and perpetuate a positive working environment and an enriched housing environment for our shelter guests.
WHO YOU ARE
You are a confident, compassionate and organized leader who can balance people, animals, logistics, and the unexpected realities of shelter life.
You bring:
At least 2 years of animal shelter management experience Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills An active listener, dedicated to learning and growing Excellent organizational and operational abilities A commitment to humane, progressive animal care The ability to make thoughtful decisions in challenging circumstances A genuine passion for both animals and the people who care for them
