Medical Records Technician Premier Staffing Unlimited is currently seeking an experienced Medical Records Technician for an opportunity in a healthcare setting. The Medical Records Technician will be responsible for maintaining accurate, complete, and confidential patient medical records while ensuring compliance with healthcare, legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements. This position involves both electronic and hard-copy medical records, including scanning, filing, Release of Information (ROI) requests, chart review and abstraction, quality reporting, and maintaining documentation for Process Improvement initiatives. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable with medical terminology, and experienced working with confidential patient information. Responsibilities Assemble medical records in the established order for permanent filing Review medical records for accuracy and completeness Identify documentation deficiencies requiring completion by physicians or other professional staff Follow up on incomplete or deficient records until documentation is complete Review and assemble patient records following discharge Ensure all required documentation is received for discharged patients File completed medical records and retrieve previous records when necessary Prepare and scan medical documentation into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system Process Release of Information (ROI) requests in accordance with applicable policies and regulations Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information and medical records Follow HIPAA requirements and organizational privacy policies Complete medical record chart abstractions for CMS Quality Reporting Assist with HIDI State Reporting requirements Monitor reporting deadlines and ensure required information is completed accurately and on time Review medical records for Process Improvement objectives and maintain information needed for PI meetings Participate in ongoing training and in-service programs Perform additional medical records duties as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Minimum of two years of experience in a medical office or healthcare environment preferred Previous medical records experience strongly preferred Ability to read and understand medical terminology Experience working with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems Experience with document scanning and electronic filing Basic knowledge of medical coding Strong organizational and time-management skills Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple deadlines and reporting requirements Ability to maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive patient information Knowledge of HIPAA requirements Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the workday as needed Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds Ability to work within a healthcare environment where interaction with patients or individuals exhibiting challenging or physically aggressive behavior may occasionally occur Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have previous experience working with medical records and understand the importance of accuracy, confidentiality, organization, and meeting reporting deadlines.
