As a Lead Health Information Specialist (LHIS), you will play a critical role in supporting daily operations and ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of medical information. This role combines hands-on Release of Information (ROI) work with leadership support, training, and team coordination.
💼 You will:
Providing call support and assisting with ROI-related inquiries
Processing medical record requests accurately and confidentially in compliance with HIPAA
Assisting the Supervisor with inventory management, including Healthsource queue oversight and prioritization of urgent requests
Serving as a subject-matter resource for team members on ROI workflows, EMR navigation, SOPs, and best practices
Supporting client and internal escalations with timely follow-up and clear communication
Assisting with training and onboarding of new hires, including mentoring and coaching
Facilitating team training sessions and ongoing education to reinforce compliance and quality standards
Performing data entry, faxing, scanning, and other administrative duties as needed
Maintaining professionalism and effective communication with patients, providers, and clinical staff
Supporting overall team productivity and quality goals
🎯 What you will bring to the table:
High school diploma or equivalent. (Must be from an Accredited Institute recognized by the State Dept. of Education.)
Willingness and ability to travel locally on a weekly basis as needed
Proficiency with computers, email systems, and standard office equipment
Strong understanding of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
Ability to stay organized while working quickly. Strong attention to detail is also required.
Passing annual Introductory HIPAA examination. (Testing to be given annually in accordance with employee review.)
Required to take and pass a 90-day ROI Certification course with a score of 85% or higher.

Bonus points if:
Prior experience in healthcare, medical records, HIM, or Release of Information (ROI) required
Supervisory or lead experience strongly preferred
Previous production/metric-based work experience.
In-person customer service experience.
Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers.
Comfortable bringing new ideas, process improvement suggestions, and feedback to internal stakeholders
Pay ranges for this job title may differ based on location, responsibilities, skills, experience, and other requirements of the role. The estimated base pay range per hour for this role is:
$17.56—$24.19 USD
