$16.20 - $24.30 per hour About the Position Gateway Regional Medical Center is looking for a friendly, organized, and patient-focused Medical Secretary to join our Glen Carbon Physical/Occupational Therapy team. The Medical Secretary plays an important role in creating a positive experience for our patients from the moment they walk through the door. This position serves as a welcoming first point of contact while providing essential administrative and scheduling support to the therapy team. What You'll Do Welcome patients and provide a friendly, professional first impression. Answer incoming telephone calls and direct calls appropriately. Register and check in patients for scheduled appointments. Schedule and coordinate patient appointments. Communicate with patients regarding appointments and scheduling needs. Communicate with physicians and healthcare providers to obtain required orders. Assist with obtaining and coordinating necessary authorizations. Reconcile charges and ensure information is entered accurately. Enter and maintain quality improvement (QI) data. Maintain accurate patient and departmental records. Work closely with Physical and Occupational Therapy staff to support efficient daily operations. Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, physicians, and coworkers. Perform other clerical and administrative duties as assigned. What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous medical office, healthcare, scheduling, or customer service experience preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Ability to maintain accuracy while managing multiple tasks. Professional and welcoming demeanor. Ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Basic computer skills and the ability to learn healthcare-related systems. Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and following applicable healthcare policies and procedures.
