Role:
The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare facility, playing a critical role in creating a welcoming and efficient environment. This position is responsible for managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records to ensure smooth clinical operations. The role requires effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate seamless information flow and support patient care delivery. Additionally, the Medical Receptionist 1 handles insurance verification, processes payments, and addresses patient inquiries with professionalism and empathy. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to the overall patient experience and operational success of the healthcare practice.
Responsibilities:
Greet and check in patients upon arrival, verifying personal and insurance information accurately. Schedule, reschedule, and confirm patient appointments using electronic health record (EHR) systems. Answer incoming phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical staff. Maintain and update patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Process patient payments, co-pays, and assist with billing inquiries as needed. Coordinate with medical staff to prepare patients for appointments and communicate any special instructions. Manage waiting room flow to minimize patient wait times and enhance overall experience. Perform administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and managing correspondence related to patient care.

Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance representatives, facilitating clear and compassionate exchanges. Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred but not required. Basic proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant. Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance billing processes. Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community. Customer service experience in a healthcare environment.
