The sitter will help maintain a safe environment by monitoring assigned patients, recognizing changes in behavior or condition, and promptly communicating concerns to nursing staff. Key Responsibilities Provide continuous 1:1 observation of an assigned patient as directed by nursing staff. Maintain patient safety and remain attentive to the patient at all times. Assist with maintaining a calm, respectful, and supportive environment. Observe and report changes in the patient's behavior, mood, or condition to nursing staff immediately. Follow all facility policies, procedures, and patient safety protocols. Assist with basic comfort and non-clinical needs as permitted by facility policy. Provide appropriate companionship and reassurance to patients. Help prevent falls, wandering, unsafe behaviors, or other potential safety concerns. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times. Document observations and activities accurately when required. Communicate professionally with nurses, therapists, physicians, patients, and family members. Perform other duties within the sitter's scope of responsibility as assigned by the nursing team. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience as a sitter, caregiver, patient companion, nursing assistant, behavioral health aide, or healthcare support worker preferred. Experience working with patients in a rehabilitation, hospital, skilled nursing, behavioral health, or long-term care setting is a plus. Strong observation and communication skills. Reliable, patient, calm, and compassionate demeanor. Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a healthcare team. Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to remain with and continuously observe a patient for extended periods. Ability to assist with basic patient safety needs within the limits of the position. Ability to respond quickly to safety concerns and notify nursing staff. May require standing, walking, bending, and assisting with repositioning or other non-clinical activities as permitted by facility policy. Availability to work day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed.
