My Life Learning Center wishes to recruit a full time 1 on 1 (40 hours a week; Monday thru Friday) Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide support to a person with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who has behavior challenges. The position is on location at Ellicott City, MD. The DSP will travel with the client in the DSPs vehicle for all community-based activities each day. The activities will be assigned by the supervisor at My Life Larning Center. The DSP will help the person build everyday life skills, become more independent, and take part in activities in the community. The DSP will also use positive behavior support techniques to help the person succeed while treating them with respect, dignity, and understanding. As for the work environment, services are provided throughout the community.

  • Mileage for travel with client will be paid by the employer, My Life Learning Center Minimum position requirements Associates degree in relevant field At least 3 years of experience in supporting 1 on 1 with adults with autism and behavior issues.
Experience implementing behavior support plans. Current CPR and First Aid, and AED certification Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record. Ability to pass required criminal background checks and pre-employment screenings. Provide 3 professional references from supervisors of past employers who can speak to the candidate's qualifications Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Have current MANDT training Knowledge of crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques Essential Responsibilities Provide direct one-on-one support in the community. Implement individualized behavior support plans and positive behavior interventions. Monitor, document, and report behavioral incidents, progress, and significant observations. Teach and reinforce communication, social, and independent living skills. Support participation in community outings, recreational activities, and vocational or educational opportunities. Encourage positive social interactions and relationship-building. Maintain a calm, professional approach during periods of behavioral escalation while utilizing approved de-escalation techniques. Ensure the individual's health, safety, dignity, and rights are maintained at all times. Administer medications if authorized and certified according to agency policy. Complete required documentation accurately and within established timelines. Communicate effectively with supervisor and other members of the support team. Required Skills Presume Competence. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during behavioral incidents. Excellent observation and documentation skills. Dependability. Ability to work independently while following established support plans. Respect for confidentiality and person-centered care principles. Physical Requirements Due to the active nature of this position, candidates must be able to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting, and participating in community activities with participants. Work Environment Services are provided throughout the community. The DSP must be comfortable working independently as needed and adapting to changing daily schedules while maintaining a positive, supportive environment.
Pay:
$25.00 - $26.00 per hour
