Position Overview
- The Mental Health Associate (MHA) provides direct support and supervision to residents at The MendCenter, ensuring a safe, structured, and therapeutically supportive environment. Under the supervision of the Residential Director, the MHA assists clients in daily activities, de-escalation techniques, therapeutic engagement, and skill-building exercises that promote independence and stability.

This position offers opportunities for training, advancement, and professional development in the field of mental health. Key Responsibilities 1. Promoting a Safe & Supportive Environment
- Ensure resident safety by monitoring behaviors and de-escalating conflicts in a calm and therapeutic manner.
- Identify and report safety hazards, maintenance issues, and staff/patient safety concerns to supervisors.
- Ensure residents follow house rules and properly use household cleaning items and equipment.
- Maintain situational awareness and remain rationally detached and professional during escalated situations or crises. 2. Direct Client Support & Therapeutic Engagement
- Provide consistent, compassionate support to residents throughout their daily routines.
- Encourage participation in community activities to promote social engagement and independence.
- Implement therapeutic interventions as directed by the clinical team.
- Respect professional boundaries and effectively set limits with residents when necessary. 3. Effective Communication & Documentation
- Complete shift documentation promptly and accurately, including behavioral observations and incident reports.
- Maintain and update Q-Logs every shift.
- Report behaviors or activities that may pose a safety or nuisance issue for residents or neighbors. 4. Professional Development & Team Collaboration
- Participate in mandatory biweekly team meetings and ongoing training to improve professional skills.
- Attend state-mandated training and professional development courses.
- Maintain an active role in performance reviews, working towards professional goals.
- Contribute to a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Education:
o High School Diploma or equivalent required. o Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field highly desirable.Experience:
o Minimum of 2 years of experience in a mental health setting, residential facility, or crisis intervention role. o Experience working with individuals who have behavioral challenges is strongly preferred.Licensure & Certifications:
o Valid driver's license required. o CPR and CPI (Crisis Prevention & Intervention) Training (can be obtained through The MendCenter).Skills & Attributes:
o Strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills. o Ability to work with individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges. o Empathy, patience, and adaptability in high-stress environments. o Strong team collaboration and leadership potential.
