Position Overview We are seeking an empathetic, vigilant, and value-driven Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) to join our patient care team for a 100% on-site role at our facility in Glendale, AZ. As a frontline, on-site caregiver, you will rely heavily on high emotional intelligence (EQ) and clear communication skills ( bilingual in Spanish highly preferred ) to navigate complex behavioral dynamics with empathy, self-awareness, and composure. In this role, your primary focus will be actively shaping and maintaining an intentional therapeutic milieu —establishing psychological safety, structured routines, and a supportive physical and social atmosphere where individuals managing mental health conditions or substance use disorders feel safe, respected, and empowered. Key Responsibilities Milieu Facilitation & Direct Patient Support (On-Site):
Therapeutic Milieu Anchoring:
Serve as an on-site anchor for the therapeutic milieu, fostering a calm, low-stimulus, safe, and structured physical and social environment conducive to healing.
Vigilant Supervision:
Maintain continuous, vigilant on-site supervision of patients to ensure physical safety and emotional well-being across the unit and facility grounds.
Group Facilitation:
Lead or facilitate on-site patient community meetings, peer support groups, and structured recreational or therapeutic milieu activities that promote community building and self-advocacy.
Behavioral Management, EQ & Crisis Intervention:
Emotional Intelligence & Monitoring:
Apply high EQ to monitor patient behavior in real time, recognizing early signs of emotional distress or agitation before escalation occurs.
Trauma-Informed De-escalation:
Utilize compassionate de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed communication to reduce anxiety and resolve interpersonal conflicts within the unit.
Crisis Response:
Assist clinical staff during behavioral emergencies or crises in strict accordance with facility safety protocols and non-violent crisis intervention training.
Safety Checks:
Perform routine safety checks, and physical environment monitoring to safeguard patient and staff welfare while respecting individual dignity.
Documentation & Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
EHR Documentation:
Record accurate, objective observation notes, behavioral logs, and vital signs in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Shift Hand-Offs & Team Care:
Participate actively in on-site shift hand-off reports and treatment team meetings, bringing frontline observations of patient progress and milieu dynamics to the broader clinical team.
Ethical Compliance:
Uphold our conscious care mission by maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines, patient rights, and professional ethical standards.
Qualifications & Requirements Work Location Requirement:
Ability to work 100% on-site at our Glendale, AZ facility during scheduled shifts.
Language Skills:
Bilingual in Spanish (Highly Preferred): Fluent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish to effectively connect with, support, and de-escalate diverse patients within our Glendale community.
Education:
High school diploma or GED required. An Associate or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related behavioral health field is strongly preferred.
Certifications:
Active CPR / First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire). Crisis intervention certification (e.g., CPI, Safe Crisis Management) preferred. Valid BHT certification / state credential (if required by state or local regulations).
Experience:
1+ years of experience working in mental health, addiction treatment, or human services preferred.
