The Detox Technician provides direct client support and assists with maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for individuals undergoing detoxification and beginning their recovery journey. This position works closely with nurses and other members of the treatment team to monitor clients, complete safety rounds, obtain vital signs, assist with admissions and discharges, and support clients with their daily needs. 10:30 PM•7:00 AM Holiday availability may be required based on scheduling needs. Duties and Responsibilities Perform and document scheduled client safety rounds according to facility policy. Obtain and accurately document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation. Immediately notify the nurse of abnormal vital signs, changes in behavior, worsening withdrawal symptoms, or other client concerns. Observe clients for changes in physical or behavioral condition and communicate findings to nursing staff. Assist nursing staff and the treatment team with client admissions and discharges. Complete admission contraband searches of client belongings according to facility policy. Assist with admission procedures and orient new clients to the facility, rules, schedules, and expectations. Assist with urine specimen collection and drug screening according to facility procedures. Accurately document rounds, vital signs, and other required information in Kipu. Support clients with activities of daily living and basic needs when appropriate. Maintain awareness of client location and ensure appropriate supervision throughout the shift. Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe client environment. Support scheduled groups, meals, activities, and other components of the daily program. Encourage clients to follow their individualized treatment plans and facility expectations. Utilize appropriate de-escalation techniques when clients are experiencing emotional or behavioral distress. Immediately report suspected substance use, contraband, safety concerns, medical emergencies, or unusual client behavior to the nurse or appropriate supervisor. Maintain professional boundaries and treat all clients with dignity, compassion, and respect. Protect client confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and facility privacy policies. Participate in shift handoff and communicate relevant client information to incoming staff. Respond appropriately during emergencies and follow established facility emergency procedures. Complete all required training, competencies, and continuing education assigned by the facility. Perform other duties within the Detox Technician role as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in detoxification, substance use disorder treatment, behavioral health, residential treatment, or healthcare preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or ability to obtain as required by the facility. Familiarity with Kipu or other electronic health record systems preferred. Ability to accurately obtain and document vital signs. Ability to recognize and promptly report changes in a client's physical or behavioral condition. Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and professional when working with clients experiencing withdrawal, anxiety, agitation, or other behavioral health concerns. Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and client confidentiality. Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays when scheduled.
