Job Summary The Music Therapist assesses needs and administers direct music therapy treatments in order to provide habilitative and rehabilitative services to patients, both individually and in groups. The Music Therapist is expected to function as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Demonstrates Clinical Competence in the Following Areas

• Plans and organizes music therapeutic activities in accordance with patients' needs, capabilities and interests.
• Participates in instrumental and vocal music activities designed to meet patients' needs such as solo or group singing, rhythmic music activities or playing in bands.
• Observes and evaluates patients' reactions to various experiences and prepares reports documenting therapeutic changes.
• Coordinates the music therapy treatment program with other therapy programs treatment provided by other treatment team members.

Conducts individual, group, and family (as needed) therapy sessions. Demonstrates theoretical knowledge of behavioral disorders. Effectively engages patients in the therapeutic process. Demonstrates effective use of crisis intervention skills to de-escalate patients in distress. Demonstrates good clinical interviewing, conceptualization, diagnostic, treatment goal setting, and report writing skills. Maintains appropriate boundaries with patients. Demonstrates cultural competency in the provision of treatment services to a culturally diverse patient population. Demonstrate effective communication and team-work skills. Exhibits respectful behaviors towards patients, co-workers, and supervisors. Completes individual and group progress notes, treatment plans, treatment plan reviews/recerts, and weekly progress notes, and discharge summaries in a timely fashion. Accepts constructive criticism, and utilizes feedback and supervision to improve clinical and work performance. Coordinates with supervisor to communicate and insure adherence to company policies and procedures, as well as ethical and other professional guidelines.

Adheres to dress code. Appearance is professional, neat, and clean. Reports to work and to group sessions on time, as scheduled. Provides sufficient notice to supervisor of all requests for time off. Completes work or documentation in an accurate and timely manner. Wears identification while on duty. Complies with all organizational policies and professional guidelines regarding ethical and legal business practices. Completes annual continuing education requirements for licensure. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively seeks and participates in supervision opportunities to improve clinical skills and promote professional growth (e.g. consultation, personal therapy, coursework, workshops, and reading). Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the program.

Regulatory Requirements:

Required Education Bachelor's degree

MT-BC certification

Language Sills:

Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Skills:

• Knowledge of musical theory, and music instruction methods.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of music therapy.
• Knowledge of the various appropriate music therapy activities used for the therapeutic treatment of mentally handicapped persons.
• Knowledge of the equipment used in music therapy work.
• Knowledge of the techniques of directing band, orchestra, and other instrumental ensembles.
• Knowledge of conducting and score reading.
• Knowledge of musical program planning.
• Ability to read music.
• Ability to play a musical instrument.
• Ability to test and classify voices.
• Ability to make simple musical arrangements.
• Ability to direct vocal and instrumental ensembles.

Pay:

$34.00 - $37.00 per hour
