A Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner provides mental health and nursing care to patients with psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. Diagnoses mental illness, develops treatment plans and prescribes medications. Teaches patient's family about the patient's condition. Works at hospitals with dedicated mental health unit, fully dedicated psychiatric hospital or in independent practice working from nursing homes and physicians' offices.

Job Description
- 15% For patients on medications, monitors the use and documents treatment results. For patients experiencing a mental crisis, may intervene with therapy or medication. Responsible for case management.
- 15% Evaluates patient progress and reports results to the treatment team. Works with other medical professionals to evaluate or change treatment plans.
- 10% Educates staff and patients' families about mental illness, treatment and prevention.
- 10% Participates in operational assessments in search of revenue enhancement, expense reductions, consolidation efficiencies and billing opportunities.
- 5% Participates in professional activities. Also, may conduct research, evaluate outcomes or provide peer review for scholarly publications.
- 5% Supervisory/Management Responsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, director or executive. Minimum Requirements Master's Degree
- Nursing; Nurse Practitioner; Degree Emphasis or Program Certificate equivalent.
- NLNP Prescriptive Authority South Carolina Nursing License South Carolina Controlled Substance license; Federal DEA license Optional In lieu of the experience and/or educational requirements indicated above a combination of education, training, and/or experience will be considered an equivalent substitution: 10 years of Psychiatry Staff Nursing experience will be considered an equivalent substitution for post graduate education and/or certifications in Psychiatry and 1 year as a Nurse Practitioner Other Required Skills and Experience Basic Computer Skills Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

Patient Equip( Vitals, Suction, Defib) Additional In Lieu of Statement Team members employed in this job prior to July 1, 2020 are grandfathered under prior educational and experience requirements. In addition, team members must be certification eligible and will have one year to obtain required certification(s).
