First Presbyterian Church (FPC) is seeking a Nursery Attendant to join the staff of our growing congregation. RESPONSIBILITIES
The Nursery Attendant supports the worshipping community by providing safe, nurturing, dependable care to young children during worship (and special events as requested). Young children entrusted to the care of the Nursery Attendant include primarily preschoolers, with toddlers and/or infants from time to time. Responsibilities of the Nursery Attendant will include:
  • Upon arrival, checking nursery for cleanliness and safety. Check toys and equipment to see that all are clean and in good condition. Put dirty or broken toys/ equipment in cabinets away from children. Wash/ sanitize toys/ equipment as necessary. Notify supervisor of broken toys/ equipment, needed supplies, and other health or safety concerns.
  • Taking active responsibility for care and supervision of all children, protecting, helping, and encouraging them to engage in appropriate play/ activities.
Greet children and parents/ responsible adults warmly as they arrive. When a child is inconsolable, send for the parent/ responsible adult through a volunteer. Never leave child(ren) unattended. Share regularly with parents/ responsible adults what their child(ren) did and what needs their child(ren) had while in the nursery.
  • If no children are present in the nursery, assist volunteers providing child-focused lessons or activities for preschoolers/ grade school children.
  • Cooperation with supervisor and volunteers. Notify supervisor of any potential problems among either children or parents. Work as a team with all volunteers. Supervise youth volunteers.
  • Upholding First Presbyterian Church's policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position is best suited for a candidate who loves young children and enjoys providing a nurturing environment for children's play and growth. The successful candidate will be at least 18 years of age; have experience in child care, including experience with infants; be proficient with email communication; have Red Cross First Aid and Infant/Pediatric CPR/AED training, or equivalent training, or be willing to undertake such training during the first two months of employment at the church's expense.
Accountability and evaluation:
The Nursery Attendant will report to the Pastor. Performance reviews will be conducted annually by the Pastor under the auspices of the Session's Personnel Committee. The Session and Personnel Committee will annually review compensation.
PAY RATE and HOURS:
Nursery Attendant will be paid hourly, at a rate commensurate with experience. Hours are every other Sunday, 9-11am, sometimes until 11:30am if adult educational programing is underway, with additional hours for special services and events, as negotiated.
