At RWJBarnabas Health, our oncology nursing leaders help create an environment where clinical excellence, compassionate care, and teamwork come together for patients and families navigating cancer treatment. As a Clinical Coordinator RN at the Melchiorre Cancer Center, you'll combine hands-on oncology nursing with clinical leadership to support patients, physicians, and nursing team members throughout the Cancer Center. Working under the direction of the Assistant Director of Clinical Services, you'll help coordinate daily nursing operations, guide staff, promote quality and safety, and ensure patients receive consistent, individualized care. This opportunity allows you to remain closely connected to patients while helping strengthen the nursing practice and overall experience across the Cancer Center. As a Clinical Coordinator RN, a typical day may include: Providing direct oncology nursing care while maintaining clinical responsibility for assigned patients and collaborating closely with Cancer Center physicians
Coordinating daily nursing operations and providing on-site clinical supervision to promote safe, efficient, and consistent care throughout the Cancer Center
Developing and adjusting nursing schedules and assignments based on patient volume, physician needs, clinical demands, and available resources
Serving as a clinical resource to Cancer Center nurses by providing guidance, promoting teamwork, and supporting consistent application of standards, protocols, and plans of care
Evaluating the quality of nursing care through patient assessments, review of care plans and protocols, staff observation, and identification of opportunities for improvement
Partnering with the Assistant Director of Clinical Services and Nursing Education and Research to identify individual and team learning needs and support continued nursing development
Leading and supporting Nursing Quality Improvement activities by reviewing patient outcomes, occurrence reports, incident trends, and other quality indicators
Helping develop and implement changes in clinical practice, workflows, policies, and procedures to improve patient care, safety, efficiency, and the overall Cancer Center experience
Monitoring the clinical environment, equipment, and supplies to maintain a safe, therapeutic, and well-supported setting for patients, staff, and visitors
Supporting compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements while ensuring required documentation is completed accurately and timely
Promoting positive relationships among patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors while responding promptly to concerns and identifying opportunities to improve service
Supporting staff engagement, development, performance, and retention while fostering a collaborative and cohesive oncology nursing team This role might be for you if: You are an experienced oncology nurse who enjoys combining direct patient care with clinical leadership responsibilities
You want to remain actively involved with patients while also supporting, mentoring, and coordinating the work of other nurses
Strong organization and prioritization skills allow you to manage staffing, patient needs, physician demands, and multiple competing priorities
You have the clinical confidence to evaluate nursing care, identify opportunities for improvement, and help implement meaningful changes in practice
You communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary partners
You enjoy developing cohesive nursing teams and creating an environment where collaboration and accountability support excellent patient outcomes
You are comfortable using quality data, patient outcomes, feedback, and clinical trends to strengthen nursing practice and Cancer Center operations
You value continuous quality improvement, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and evidence-based nursing practice
You bring compassion, professionalism, cultural awareness, and a patient-centered perspective to both clinical care and nursing leadership To be considered for this Clinical Coordinator RN opportunity, you must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in Jersey. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and current BCLS certification are required. Candidates must obtain IV and chemotherapy certifications within six months of employment. Three to five years of oncology nursing experience is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strong oncology clinical expertise, communication and interpersonal skills, organizational ability, leadership, staffing and resource management, and a commitment to quality improvement and patient-centered care. The ideal candidate is comfortable balancing direct oncology nursing responsibilities with daily clinical oversight, staff coordination, quality initiatives, and operational needs.
