Qualifications and Experience:
Valid certification or licensure as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience supporting school-aged students with visual impairments Strong communication skills for collaboration with educators and families Ability to create individualized mobility programs tailored to each learner Commitment to fostering independence and safe travel skills
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct student assessments to determine mobility needs and skills Develop and implement customized orientation and mobility training plans Provide direct instruction in cane skills, route planning, and safe travel Educate students on navigating indoor and outdoor environments safely Collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and families regarding student progress Maintain clear documentation and participate in student-focused meetings or IEPs as needed This role provides the flexibility of part-time hours, manageable student numbers, and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with learners and educators alike.
