Category Schools - Orientation and Mobility Specialist Job Type Contract Take your expertise as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist and make a lasting impact on students' independence and educational growth in a supportive school environment. This contract opportunity for the full academic year is perfect for a dedicated professional eager to provide essential services to a small and engaging caseload. You'll focus on a group of four students near Bradley, IL, working a .2 FTE schedule that offers meaningful connection without overwhelming demands.
Key Qualifications:
Valid certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Experience working within school settings preferred Ability to design and implement individualized O&M programs for students with visual impairments Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to collaborative teamwork Excellent organizational and communication abilities
Primary Responsibilities:
Conduct thorough assessments to determine students' O&M needs and strengths Develop and deliver personalized instruction in both indoor and outdoor environments Teach safe and effective navigation strategies, including the use of mobility aids Collaborate with educational staff and families to support student progress and integration Monitor, document, and report on student outcomes throughout the school year Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to educational planning
