Follows the 170 day school calendar.
Hours:
8:00am

  • Provides rehabilitative services to children with mental, physical, emotional, or developmental impairments under the direction of licensed occupational therapist.
  • Follows treatment plan developed in collaboration with occupational therapist by teaching and providing techniques to assist the children to perform activities required by daily life.
  • Monitors activities to make sure they are performed correctly and provides encouragement, bringing treatment that is not having the intended effect to the attention of the therapist.
  • Maintains patient occupational therapy records by recording client's progress for use by the occupational therapist.
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and alerting supervisor when in need of repairs.
  • Utilizes authorization logs provided by the Director of Therapy to plan a daily schedule of billable therapy meeting or exceeding 22 units.
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner
  • therapy notes, ISP input, comments for report cards, etc.
  • Becomes familiar with students' ISP goals in order to consult with teachers regularly regarding methods or strategies to target those goals.
  • Provides input for the annual ISP document regarding a student's performance on their previous goals and make suggestions for future goals (if applicable).
  • Attends ISP meetings as requested
  • Initiates and participate in collaboration with teachers as necessary
  • Assists students with self-care: toileting, feeding, etc. Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Minimum requirement of an associate degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Current Licensure for COTA in the State of Florida Work Context
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work.
  • Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as computers, software, electronic mail, and telephones.
  • Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines.
  • Requires face-to-face virtual discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams.
  • Requires work with students, internal and external contacts, parents, and with the public. Physical Environment
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions, and outdoors for dining and some classes.
  • Requires sitting, standing and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 20 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 20 pounds.
